Workshop on Effective Implementation of National Preschool Curriculum Standards

24 -25 July 2010
Seri Malaysia, Johor Bahru Lot PTB 17648, Jalan Langkasuka, 80350 Larkin, Johor Bahru, Johor.

national preschool curriculum for all

lecturers & facilitators are panel writers and master trainers of NPCS

workshops conducted in BM, BI, BC & BT

Preamble The National Preschool Curriculum Standard (NPCS) has replaced the National Preschool Curriculum in January 2010. Since the Education (Amendment) Act 2002 has made it mandatory for all kindergartens/preschools to use the curriculum prescribed by the Ministry of Education, NPCS is now the mandatory curriculum. A kindergarten/preschool can be fined up to RM10,000 or imprisoned or both for contravening Section 22 of this Act. NPCS has several new elements which can pose challenges and affect the success of its implementation and teacher effectiveness. Among these new features are (i) modul teras asas and modul bertema and the proportion of their time allocation; (ii) medium of instruction has to be 50% BM and 50% English and in Chinese/Tamil preschools, the allocation is 1/3 BM, 1/3 BI and 1/3 BC or BT; and learning standards for 4+and 5+. Thus the NPCS requires the teacher to be proficient in BM and BI, and acknowledgeable in scheduling the preschool time to accommodate all the requirements besides possessing the skills to conduct thematic activities. Among the aims of MAPECE is the promotion of quality early childhood education and professional effective educators. This Workshop is among those conducted by MAPECE to enhance the efficacy and professionalism of early childhood educators. iii) Planning activities for the core (modul teras asas) and the themes (modul bertema). 4) 3) 2)
