With these songs, Tannahill contributed to changing perceptions of the downtrodden Irish, and left us with a lovely body of Irish lyric and melody. The songs resound in Gaelic modalities but are delivered as parodies of the images created of the Gaels from out-with their own culture. What results is a comedic tongue-in-ear romp by three troubadours of this crossculture: Iain MacLeod, Russell Hunter and Allan MacDonald, who add their own diverse musical talents to put the icing on the black pudding. These stories were collected by Lady Evelyn Stewart Murray (1868-1940) at Blair Castle, taken from local informants and preserved in twelve manuscript volumes, using their unique dialect and usage of native Perthshire Gaelic. Bob, Christina and Bill will present Lady Evelyns tales as they might have been heard at a traditional ceilidh, with a mix of stories, songs and music. Participants will enjoy a ballet-based warm up and then explore some of the repertoire from the production. The class will be a relaxed session; no ballet experience is necessary and beginners are welcome! 12.45-1.10pm, 5 (4), Behind the Scenes Illustrated Talk Using images, film and costume, we will give you an insight into Highland Fling, a wonderfully imaginative reworking of La Sylphide. There will also be a Q&A with a Scottish Ballet dancer. 1.30-3.30pm, 10, Professional Dance Workshop An advanced technique and repertoire-based creative session, taught by one of Scottish Ballets dancers.
