Cross platform migration of Oracle application R12 on Solaris 10 to AIX 6.

Note: This document outlines the general procedure for migrating oracle application R12.1.0 from Solaris 10 to AIX 6.1

Assumptions: 1. Oracle applications R12.1.0 is installed on Solaris 10 (64-bit) 2. Database is RDBMS 11.1.0.7 (which comes as standard packaged ERP suite) 3. Target system is AIX power7 series 6.1 with all latest os utilities and packages installed as per the requisites of Apps R12 installation manual. High level steps 1. Prepare source system for migration time) 2. Perform database migration 3. Perform application tier migration does patching ) 4. Perform finishing tasks 5. Test the newly migrated system Detailed steps 1. Prepare source system for migration a. Verify Source and Target nodes software versions and o.s. requirements b. Apply latest autoconfig, rapidclone and migration patches to source system Solaris 10 in our case. c. Run autoconfig and preclone d. Identify tech stack updates if any on source so that same has to be applied to target during/after migration 2. Perform database migration a. b. c. d. e. f. g. h. Check prerequisites Prepare for the platform migration Start the database in READ ONLY mode Verify the database is ready for migration Run the RMAN CONVERT DATABASE command Move necessary files to the target system Complete the migration Perform finishing tasks (2 days: patching + backup takes (2 days: Rman issues if any ) (2 days: copying takes time and so (1 Day step 4 and step 5 together)

3. Perform application tier migration a. b. c. d. e. Generate and upload the manifest of customer-specific files Copy source system to target Install jdk,infozip etc on target Clone application context file Install application tier Technology stack.( it should be same as that of source system) f. Run AutoConfig setup phase on the Target System g. Download and apply the customer-specific update with AutoPatch

4. Perform finishing tasks a. Generate objects for new target application tier. b. Run autoconfig and other finishing tasks if any c. Cross verify new domain name d. Maintain snapshot info 5. Test the newly migrated system a. Perform general DBA tests to confirm availability of instance to users.
