Title:ModularValvelessMicropumpforIntegratedElectronicCoolingonPrintedCircuitBoard Supervisors:Dr.DhimanChatterjee;Dr.T.Nagarajan;(Late)Prof.Y.G.Srinivasa Summary: The primary objective of this research work was to numerically and experimentally investigate the low Reynolds number pulsating flow physics through piezoelectrically actuated conical diffuser/nozzle micropumps. Printed Circuit Board (PCB) substrates were used to fabricate and parametrically study the effect of excitation signal and geometrical configuration on the output pump performance. Flow separation, recirculation and bidirectionality were some of the observed characteristicfeaturesduringoperation. The secondary objective was to design and develop a low cost, portable thermal management system for liquid cooling of electronic heat sinks. Signal conditioning and control electronics were integrated with the micropump and a minichannel heat sink on the PCB, to form a modular micropumpheat exchanger unit. The effectiveness of the system with ethanol as the working fluid wascharacterizedanditssuitabilityforactiverealtimetemperaturecontroldemonstrated.

BEProject(Automobile):October2001 Title:Determinationofspacerthicknesspriortopinioncageassembly FundingOrganization:AutomotiveAxlesLimited,Mysore Summary: A circular spacer ring is placed between two taper roller bearings on the pinion shaft to provide the required preload during power transmission inanautomobile. Thepreexisting trialand error method for the determination of spacer thickness in the pinion cage assembly caused high fatigue to the workers and an increase in the production time. To overcome this problem a fixture comprisingofadolly, locatorandbaseplatewasdesignedandfabricatedtochoosethecorrectspacer thicknessandadjustthepreloadcondition.Asecondmethodutilizingadialindicatorfixedinadolly wasalsoproposed, wherethedistancebetweenthebearingswasdeterminedfortherequiredpreload andthecorrectspacersizeselected.
