News From Room 207

Week of 6/3/13
In spite of the heat, we enjoyed the Sing and Swing concert with Mrs. LeBoeuf last Thursday. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to join us. Great job everyone! Sherwood Middle School is having an Open House this Thursday from 5:30-7:00 PM. If you have time to attend, I highly recommend it. Field Day is Friday (raindate-Monday). Please remember to have your child wear a blue shirt and sneakers, put on sunscreen and bring in a water bottle. Children will have lunch in the cafeteria at 11:25 AM and then go to recess. The Opening Ceremony will begin at 1:00 PM. Our Pen Pal Picnic is next week. Any chaperones interested in joining us are welcome to. The more the merrier. We will leave Spring Street School at 11:15 AM and return around 1:00 PM. Our Author Celebration/Slide Show will be on Tuesday, June 18th at 2:00pm. Your child will be sharing a writing project with you and receiving a reading award. We will also watch a slide show of the year. We hope you will be able to join us. We are in desperate need of disinfecting wipes and Mr. Clean Magic erasers. If you are able to send in a container/box, that would be greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to a fantastic week. Warmly, Sandra Travers

Science A study guide came home last week to help your child prepare for our assessment on June 4th. Read Aloud Our new book is by James Riley and is called Half Upon a Time. In the story, Jack lives in a fantasy world. He's the son of the infamous Jack who stole the magic beans from the giant, and he's working hard to restore his family's reputation. He finds the perfect opportunity when a "princess" lands in front of him, apparently from the land of Punk, as her Punk Princess t-shirt implies. May is from our world, and she's utterly confused to find herself in the midst of the fairy tale characters she has read about.

Math We will complete our End of the Year Math Assessment and begin Unit 12. Please check in with your child to be sure they have completed the study link as well as the assigned math boxes each night. Social Studies We will work on a BIG map this week before we head on to Mexico. English Language Arts We have finished our End of the Year newsletter and we will move on to our last writing project this week. Please let us know if you will be joining us for our Author Celebration/Slide show on June 18th.
