Which Reflects The Scheduling Algorithm
The Data Grid Columns Player 1/Player 2 = Names of Player 1 and Player 2 who are scheduled together this round. Bracket Bracket the players in this row are in. Until bracketing begins, all brackets are 0 which reflects the scheduling algorithm. Table The table number assigned to these players this round. Winner The person who has won this match after data entry occurs. P1O/P2O Number of objectives each player acquired this round. P1KP/P2KP Number of kill points each player acquired this round. P1Q/P2Q Number of quarters each player acquired this round. P1VP/P2VP Number of victory points earned by each player this round. P1WP/P2WP The Win Path of each player. Remember, this gets reset after the bracketing round occurs. P1C/P2C The competitive score of both players in this match. 5 is highest. 1 is lowest. P1GS/P2GS The Genearlship score of both players calculated up to but not including this round. Remember, this gets reset after bracketing occurs (but not forgotten for Overall Score) The Menu System
Password Where you enter in the admin password and flag to turn off password requisition. Tournament Main tournament operations like start, continue, next round, finish, etc. (brains of the thing) Roster The roster editor for entering or editing players. Also where you deactivate players. Scoring Used at the end of the tournament to change max scores etc. for Best Overall calculation. Files For importing Sports and Appearance files to calculate best overall from the other scorers. Tables Change flags on how tables will be assigned next round. Random? Respect played on? Video top table? Debug used to run simulations and debug the program. Allows you to quickly build a tournament roster and to auto-fill round results. Manual Changes Where you go to change tables or swap players after a round has been scheduled. Getting Started To see how the software works, you will first need to create a Tournament Roster. Before doing that, though, you need to enter in the admin password. Step #1: Open the program click on Password menu. Click password and enter the admin password. The software is designed with the possibility for players to enter in their own scoring information. So, you can go to a paperless tournament if you want. The admin password is intended to keep people who are using the software from doing things they arent allowed to do! Step #2: You can turn off password requests at this time since its just you using the pro gram. You can do this as well if you never have an intent for players to interface with the program. To do so, under Password, click Remove password. Type the admin password. At this point, you will need to create a new Tournament Roster. You can do so by hand with the New option under Tournament. Once you have specified the file, you can then go to the Roster editor and enter in players by hand. I would recommend at this point that you use the DEBUG menu to auto-generate a roster.
Step #3: Using DEBUG, Generate a Roster. A) You will be asked to enter in the number of rounds for your tournament. B) You will be asked to enter in the Bracket Round. This is the round where bracketing starts. For an 8 round tournament, that would be Round #5. For a 6 round, that would be Round #4. It should be the (Number of Rounds / 2) + 1. C) You will be asked to enter in the cut-off for Overall. This is the round where we stop calculating scores for Best Overall. If this is in the middle of the tournament, this is also the round where afterwards, only winners progress to the next round. D) You will be asked to enter in the points level for the tournament which is used in Generalship Score calculation. E) You will be asked for a place to SAVE the Tournament File. Give it a name and save it somewhere where you can find it. The created roster will have a number of players with randomly assigned competitive scores and groups. Step #4: Load your Tournament Roster. Under Tournament, click to load. Select the tournament file you just created. Step #5: Start the tournament. Under Tournament, click to start. A) You will be asked for where to save the Round 1 Pairings File and the Round 1 Scores file. Specify a name and save them wherever you like. Step #6: See that your tournament has been scheduled for Round 1. Step #7: Provide scores for Round #1. You can do this manually by clicking on the Row header for each Match-up. This will take you to score entry. This is also how players would enter in their own scores except prompted for their passwords. A) Used the DEBUG menu and the Auto Fill option. This will automatically fill out the entire Round information for all match-ups. With Random Values. Step #8: When everyone in Round 1 has a score, go to the next round. Click on Tournament then Next Round. A) You will be prompted for where to save Round 2 file and Round 2 Scores file. Name them and save wherever you like. B) If you have a large tournament roster, the program may seem to freeze while it builds the schedule. This might take a lot of time! If the program seems frozen after asking you for a Round File to save, give it a couple of minutes to see if it recovers. (In testing
this took about 10 seconds I have an SSD though and fast processor might take minutes) Step #9: Round 2 begins. Repeat the steps above to continue your tournament and watch it work. A) If after schedule creation, you see a RED line, that tells you that those two players have played each other before in this tournament. B) If you see a GREEN line, that tells you that two players are playing each other in the same group. Step #10: On the last round, instead of Next Round it will say Finish under tournament. Click this to be taken to the Scores screen. Step #11: On the scores screen, you can sort by the columns to see who won each bracket, what generalship scores are etc. You can also import Appearance and Sports Scores if you like. Other Points of Interest A Players Leaves the Tournament. To simulate this, during any round, open up the Roster menu and click to Edit. Select a name from the Roster. (Enter passwords where appropriate. Remember, players can enter their own info thus the passwords). Set the status of the player to Inactive. Create the roster. When you go to the next Round, you will see this player is gone and Ringers start appearing if uneven rounds. Table Assignments.. Play with the table flags before you schedule the next round. See how the tables get randomized, purely assigned, etc. Manual Changes like Fixing 2 People Playing Each Other Who Played Before. Use the Manual Change options to swap players around or tables. Continuing a Tournament where you left off.. The reason why there is a separate set of files for each round is so you can continue a tournament from a previous round! Useful if something goes horribly wrong and you need to load back to the previous round! To continue, close the program. Re-open. Enter in password. Load tournament roster. Then, under tournament Click continue. You will be prompted to provide the Round file and Scores
file for each Round. Then, the tournament will have continued at the round you specified. Easy. Sports Scorer: How To
Getting Started The Sports Scorer application is intended to be set-up as a kiosk where players will swing by after each round and enter in Sports Scoring information about their opponent. They will answer a series of simple, canned questions about their opponents. These will be used in the final sports scoring to calculate sports scores for their opponents. Sports Scoring Philosophy The Sports Scorer is designed to use the following philosophy. Players will answer the simple questions about each opponent, generating a score for each opponent. Players will then generate an average score that they hand out to players. This way, players who tend to score high have high averages, low for low, and middle for middle. This system will then take this average into account to make up for players who always give high or low scores. The computer will calculate sports scores by examining each player and comparing their score given to them by each player to the giving players average. If their scores is greater than standard deviation, they get a positive score, else an average score. If less, get an average if less than standard deviation or a negative score if less than that. Sports Scores will always range from 1 X where X is the number of rounds in the tournament. Average scores (rounds /2) can be given out as many times as the player scores them. The higher and lower scores can only be given out once each and are done so according to the algorithm above. The philosophy here normalizes a player scores to hand out averages and only hands out the positive and negative values when an exceptional score occurs.
To Use Open the Sports Scorer application. Select Load. Select Password. Enter in the Admin Password. Admin Password This password serves to lock down the sports scorer management so that only the admin password holder can do things like load data files or proceed to the next round. Select Load. Select Roster. Enter Admin Password. Roster This is the Tournament file produced by the BAO Scorer. Get a copy to this kiosk and load it or just open it/whatever.
Data- Suppose you want to pick up sports scoring where you left off at this point. Select Data here to load a data file to start up again with. This data file is produced by the Sports Scorer as scoring takes place. Each time a new score is entered, a new copy of the data file is made. This way, if you need to go backwards, you can! Just re-open the app and load this data file. YOU ONLY USE THIS IF YOU ARE LOADING DATA. TO START FRESH, GO TO ROUNDS. You will also be asked if this is the final round, defaults to Yes. If you say yes, you are on the final round entering in last sports. Else, any other value denotes that you are not. Rounds To begin or to move to the next round of sports scoring, click on Rounds->Next Round. You will be requested to select/create a new data file. You will then be requested to select the Round file. This file gets produced by the BAO Scorer during each round, and you have saved it when you created the next round there. Once you open that file, you are ready to go. Score Entry A player will step up and select his/her name. They will be prompted for their password. (This came from the tourney file you loaded). There, the player answers the questions and submits score. These scores are stored in the Data file each time. Should something happen while scoring, you can always return to the current state using the data instructions above. Final Scores When going to the last round, rather than clicking Next Round, click Final Scores. You will be prompted to specify the file where your Final Sports Scores will be saved. This will cause the program to enter Final Scores Mode. Here, as players enter in the last round scores, the computer is also calculating their final sports scores. Check Final Scores- You can use this option to see who hasnt entered in their final scores yet.
