The Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, which will hereinafter be called UNMSM, is one of the most senior academic institutions in Peru and South America, supported by its history and development, is governed by the Peruvian Constitution, the University Act and Statute; legally presented by its Rector, Dr. Pedro Cotillo Zegarra, and located at Germain Avenue Amzaga s/n, Edificio Jorge Basadre, 4th floor, University City, Lima 01 - Peru. The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, founded in 1797, strives to improve the lives of the communities it serves through excellence in learning, discovery, and healing. As one of America's top medical schools, Dartmouth's Geisel School of Medicine is committed to training new generations of diverse health care leaders who will help solve our most vexing challenges in global health care. The UNMSM and the Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine, declare their willingness to participate jointly in cooperative activities, promoting increased linkages between different academic areas in the fields of teaching, research, clinical practice, health care delivery science, and cultural competencies in health care, to what which this signed framework agreement is based on. This Memorandum of Understanding and Partnership consists of six clauses: First Clause The aim of this agreement is to establish joint study programs, student, staff and faculty exchanges, and cooperation in the field of teaching, training, research, and clinical practice in order to improve lives. A framework of cultural and scientific collaboration is the center of this agreement. Second Clause For the fulfillment of the agreement, the parties agree to carry out the activities listed below: - Promote the exchange of faculty in order to participate in conferences and short courses, and share experiences in research and teaching. - Encourage and support the development of joint research projects between individual researchers or teams of both parties.
- Establish an information exchange program via publications, research, web, digital library resources, academic in nature and produced by each of the parties. - Promote the exchange of students for the purposes of rotations and experiences, and offering academic, cultural and recreational opportunities via each respective institution. Third Clause For the implementation of the specific activities envisioned, the expectations and activities offered shall be elaborated in a separate sub-agreement. This subagreement shall contain specific proposals for collaboration to be developed to fulfill the purposes of the agreement. These proposals must have the approval of the authorities of each institution. Each program or project must submit the following information: The origin, nature and description of the project. The names of the leaders and participants of each institution. The duration of the project or activity. The financial resources provided to cover expenses related to the project and how any funding, if applicable, would be distributed. Forecasts for academic accreditation and recognition in case of joint study programs. Plans, if any, for housing participants and invited participation in university activities and campus life. Fourth Clause In order to coordinate the activities under the annual programs and compliance with the agreement, the parties shall appoint their representatives who will form a Joint Technical Commission, within a period not exceeding three months. The UNMSM designates as the responsible body for the purposes of this agreement: Dr. Guiselle Gutierrez Guerra, Coordinator of International Student Exchanges at San Marcos, as supervisor of this agreement. Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine designates as the responsible body for the purposes of this agreement: Dr. Lisa Adams, Associate Dean for Global Health and Director of the Center for Health Equity at Geisel, as supervisor of the agreement.
The functions of the Joint Technical Committee are to: a) Propose and approve courses of action under the Convention. b) Plan and coordinate the academic development and structure of every part of the annual programs. c) Assess the development of annual plans related to the educational and research experiences, establish formal standards and expectations, and evaluate and share results, progress and quality of the experiences. Fifth Clause If there is intellectual property resulting from work performed as a result of this agreement, a separate sub-agreement will be created outlining the parameters of any shared recognition and support. Sixth Clause This agreement will be valid for five years from the date of its signature, and may be terminated by any of the institutions via communications 3 months prior to any effective termination date.
