New Year Resolution

Year 2006 has finally come to an end today, leaving stories of joy, success and achievements with a number of people, but painful, and unforgettable happenings of sorrow and misery with others. A number of governments all over the world have succeeded in bringing relief to the governed while others have succeeded through the policy measures taken in inflicting economic, sound and spiritual woes on their citizens. Corporate bodies and entrepreneurial businesses are busy preparing their financial statements Profit and loss statements and balance sheets to establish, whether targets were achieved or not. The entire spectrum will now set out plans and achievements to establish the gap and the reasons for the gap. Appropriate strategies will now be designed and structured to bridge the gap between corporate objectives and desired results for 2007. Now, as a believer, what can you claim to be your achievement in the year 2006? New husbands, new wives, new babies, now houses, new jobs, promotions, new carsetc. Yes, you are indeed blessed, but these are not your achievements they are the gifts of God unto you. None of them could have been achieved by your own power or wisdom Deut. 8:17-19, 1 Chr. 29:10-17. They are all products of Gods benevolence. May all thanks, glory, majesty, ceaseless praise and exaltation be unto our God now and forever. What you can rightly consider to be your achievements are indeed those things that will, eventually, be for the benefit of your soul. They are recorded and stored for you in the heavenly treasury, where no thief or moth can reach to destroy. Luke 12:33-34. Those true and enduring achievements that you can rejoice over include: The number of people that you have introduced to Christ and the number of unbelievers that you have ministered unto and brought into the house of worship. The number of homeless that you have fed and clothed. The number of broken marriages, homes, and relationships that you have repaired and restored. 1

Those who are hungry that you have fed. Those that you have assisted with their rents or childrens school fees, because they are handicapped. Those that you have visited and prayed for in hospitals and in jail houses. The less privileged, widows and orphans that you have catered to. Your financial support for developments in churches. Support for the ministers of God. Support for the dispensation of the gospel assisting to finance the spread of the gospel through the print and electronic media. Providing for the blind, the lame, the lepers and destitute. Anything that you can do to relieve others of pains and sorrow. Sharing your substance with others who are in sincere need such as the jobless. Counseling those who are devastated and assisting those in bondage with prayer.

These are the greatest achievements. They are eternal savings that cannot be destroyed. However, if you are laying up treasures for yourself without being rich towards God and the less privileged, you are truly the most miserable without any achievement to show for your salvation. Remember the parable of the good Samaritan and the widow of Zarephath Why not examine where you have fallen short in the year 2006 and design a new years resolution that revolves around the above achievements of the spirit? Perhaps, I should also ask in closing- how many times have you worshipped God this year 2006? Why not resolve to make God your priority this new year 2007, and also imbibe a bowel of charity. If you do, your dwelling shall be saved from all forms of catastrophe, your light shall break forth as the morning, thy health shall spring forth speedily, and thy righteousness shall go before thee, the glory of the Lord shall be thy reward and your life will be like a well watered garden. You will call on God, and He will answer you. Isaiah 58:7-11. May the good Lord make 2007 a crown of peace, joy and glory for you and your entire household as you accept and reflect Jesus Christ in your lifestyle this new year. Amen.
