Assignment 3
Assignment 3
The use of computer systems to execute a variety of office operations, such as word processing, accounting, and e-mail. Office automation almost always implies a network of computers with a variety of available programs. 2. Explain briefly what is a word processor, spreadsheet, database and others that we can find in MS Office. Word Processor = A program or computer that enables user to perform word processing functions. Excel = A table of values arranged in rows and columns. Each value can have a predefined relationship to the other values. Database = A collection of information organized in such a way that a computer program can quickly select desired pieces of data. Also known as electronic filing system. Publisher = Create and edit newsletter, brochure, flyers and websites PowerPoint = Create and edit presentation for slide shows, meetings and web pages Outlook = Send and receive e-mail; manage schedule, contacts and task; and record personal activities. 3. List and explain briefly two features that we can use in MS Word, Excel, Publisher, Access, PowerPoint and FrontPage. MS Word: (1) WordArt WordArt enables drawing text in a Microsoft Word document such as a title, watermark, or other text, with graphical effects such as skewing, shadowing, rotating, and stretching in a variety of shapes and colors and even including three-dimensional effects.
(2) Creating tables Users can also create tables in MS Word. Depending on the version, Word can perform simple calculations. Formulas are supported as well. MS publisher: Microsoft Publisher 2007 provides simple story editing with Microsoft Word 2007, but unlike Adobe In Design & Adobe In Copy, it does not provide built in XML story board and copy-editing support. Also, unlike the core Office 2007 applications, it does not feature the Ribbon user interface. The Microsoft Publisher trial version can be used as a viewer beyond the trial period. MS Access: There is also the Jet Database format (MDB or ACCDB in Access 2007) which can contain the application and data in one file. This makes it very convenient to distribute the entire application to another user, who can run it in disconnected environments. WordArt enables drawing text in a Microsoft Word document such as a title, watermark, or other text, with graphical effects such as skewing, shadowing, rotating, and stretching in a variety of shapes and colors and even including three-dimensional effects. Microsoft Access offers parameterized queries. These queries and Access tables can be referenced from other programs like VB6 and .NET through DAO or ADO. From Microsoft Access, VBA can reference parameterized stored procedures via ADO. MS Front Page: Dynamic Web Templates (DWT) were included for the first time in FrontPage 2003 allowing users to create a single template that could be used across multiple pages and even the whole Web site.
Interactive Buttons give users a new easy way to create web graphics for navigation and links, eliminating the need for a complicated image-editing package such as Adobe Photoshop.
