Project Brief
To create an exciting and imaginative Enchanted Forest installation supporting the theme of sustainability. This is a great opportunity for artists and designers to showcase their work in a newly designed marketing suite and gallery setting in Aberfeldy Village. The commission will be semipermanent as the marketing suite is expected to last up to 8 years. As part of the artist proposal the designs will need to incorporate site-specic materials used within the development. The commissioning body are interested in creative proposals that incorporate the following: The Enchanted Forest o
An installation created from domestic plastic pipes (drainage, M&E etc) used in the development that will connect and serve this new community. The pipes will be supplied by Willmott Dixon in discussion with the artist and will be of various sizes. The pipes can be varying types, sizes and colours, including rigid pipes and exible pipes. o
The forest will be a walk through designated area to create an immersive experience for visitors o
The materials can be embellished with other materials, sounds, projections and the materials themselves can be transformed - be creative! o
The allocated space is enclosed by three walls (see diagram) The commissioning body is interested in designs that; are imaginative and visually exciting address themes of sustainability, the environment and regeneration incorporate the materials provided in an imaginative and innovative way engage with the local community create an exciting site-specic installation, using the space to its full potential The proposal should clearly explain how the artist intends to use the materials provided to create the installation and/or sculpture and provide supporting evidence of similar work they have completed. The artworks will be sited at Willmott Dixon Regeneration's Marketing suite in Aberfeldy Village in Poplar an historic area of East India Dock, a new development plan in partnership with Poplar HARCA building over 900 new homes in a regeneration program where culture and the role of the artist will play an important part in engaging with the local communities. The space will reect Willmott Dixon Regeneration's sustainable values - putting people rst, tackling climate change and energy efciency, smarter use of natural resources, and responsible business.

Selection Process The commissioner and Bow Arts will form a judging panel that will undertake the nal review and selection. Shortlisted artists will be invited to create maquettes which will be presented to the panel before nal selection. The images accompanying this brief show the Marketing suite design and layout, indicating where the installation will be situated. Budget The guideline budget is 3,000 (exc. VAT) for the commission, including artist fee, transportation, installation and additional materials needed. The commissioner will supply the core materials (bricks or pipe work) free of charge to the artist. However the commissioner will be willing to consider additional funding for an outstanding piece of work. Artists can submit more than one design for consideration. Artists invited to create maquettes for the second stage selection process will be paid a fee of 200. Following the selection of the successful proposal a full breakdown of the payment plan will be implemented.
