Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine Program


Students at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences are trained to become primary care physicians with a focus in natural therapeutics and prevention. The Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine program is a four-year professional-level medical degree program. Upon successful completion of graduation requirements, the student is awarded a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree. SCNM has been recognized for its curricular innovations which are aimed at adapting adult learning theory to medical education. Educational emphasis has shifted from the learning of facts to teaching students the skills they will need to be effective lifelong learners. SCNM is truly on the forefront of medical education delivery. The programs educational initiatives are aimed at improving the integration of the basic sciences and clinical sciences and integrating team based learning throughout the curriculum. Our progressive curriculum includes: Clinical experiences beginning in the first year and continuing throughout the curriculum Integration of content by body systems, Case-based instruction and testing in preparation for the board examinations Team-based learning Selectives (mandatory electives): student choices in didactic courses and clinical electives.
