This pattern provides instructions for knitting a basic raglan pullover sweater with optional waist and sleeve shaping.

It has a top-down raglan construction, where the sleeves and body are knitted as one piece and increases are done at the raglan sections to shape the sleeves.

Increases are done every odd row by knitting into the front and back of stitches before and after each raglan marker.

Brick is a simple, basic pullover perfect as your everyday sweater. It has a top-down raglan construction, which allows you to try on as you go to check your fit.

Needles: Size 9 US, circular and DPN; Size 7 US, circular and DPN Yarn: Worsted weight, approx. 680[780, 1000, 1200, 1430, 1620, 1800] yards. Shown in Brooklyn Tweed SHELTER, Long Johns colorway

CAST ON
With larger needle, CO 1, PM, CO 10[11, 11, 13, 13, 14, 15], PM, CO 30[32, 34, 38, 40, 42, 46], PM, CO 10[11, 11, 13, 13, 14, 15], PM, CO 1 Total stitches: 52[56, 58, 66, 68, 72, 78] Do not join.

RAGLAN INCREASE
Row 1 (RS):*KFB, SM, KFB, knit to 1 stitch before the next marker*. Repeat between ** 2 more times. KFB, SM, KFB. (8 increases) Row 2 (WS): P all stitches.

Row 3 (RS): KFB, *K to 1 stitch before the next marker, KFB, SM, KFB* Repeat between ** 3 more times. K to 1 stitch before the last stitch, KFB. (10 increases) Row 4 (WS): P all stitches. Repeat rows 3-4 for 14[16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26] more rows (or 18[20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30] rows total from CO). Youre increasing 1 stitch at the first and the last stitch, plus 1 stitch before and after each marker, every odd row. Repeat Row 3 (an increase row) once more. Back stitches (between C & D from Figure 1) now: 50[54, 58, 64, 68, 72, 78]. Front stitches together (between A & B + E & F from Figure 1) now: 40[44, 48, 52, 56, 60, 64]. CO 10[10, 10, 12, 12, 12, 14] stitches on your right needle with backward loop method. Place a distinguishable marker to mark beginning of round. Join with the stitches on the left for knitting in round. No more WS. Yay! From now on, Every odd row: *K to 1 stitch before the next marker, KFB, SM, KFB* Repeat between ** 3 more times. K to end. (8 increases) Every even row: K all stitches Repeat these rows until you have 34[38, 44, 46, 54, 56, 62] rows from CO. Each arm stitches (i.e.: between B & C): 44[49, 55, 59, 67, 70, 77] Each front / back stitches (i.e.: between C & D): 64[70, 78, 84, 94, 98, 108] Total stitches: 216[238, 266, 286, 322, 336, 370]

From here on, you can customize how you long you want the body and the sleeves to be as you go. Use the following instructions as a guide, but everyones body and preferences are different so try it on often to determine what suits you the best!

BODY (PLAIN WITH NO WAIST SHAPING)


If you want waist shaping, skip to the next step. *K to the first marker, remove marker, place all sleeve stitches onto piece of scrap yarn, remove marker, CO 2[4, 6, 8, 8, 12, 12] stitches using backward loop method* Joining with the stitches on the left needle, repeat bet ** once more. K to end. Slip the last (distinguishable) marker. K in round until you have 71[77, 85, 89, 97, 103, 109] rows from underarm or desirable length. Continue to Body Edging.

BODY (WITH WAIST SHAPING)


*K to the first marker, remove marker, place all sleeve stitches onto piece of scrap yarn, remove marker, CO 1[2, 3, 4, 4, 6, 6] stitch(es) using backward loop method, SM, CO 1[2, 3, 4, 4, 6, 6] stitch(es)* Joining with the stitches on the left needle, repeat bet ** once more. K to end. Slip the last (distinguishable) marker. K in round 3[0, 2, 2, 5, 7, 7] rows.

Decrease rows
*K in round 6 rows. K to the next marker, SM, K2TOG, K to 2 stitches before the next marker. SSK, SM, K to end.* Repeat between ** 7[8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8] more times, or until the length is about half inch from your waist.

Increase rows
*K in round 6 rows. K to the next marker, SM, KFB (or M1), K to 1 stitches before the next marker. KFB (or M1), SM, K to end.* Repeat between ** 0[1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 4] more time(s).

Note: If you have bigger hips, you may want to repeat these increase rows few more times and
adjust body edging length. An easy way to figure out is to try it on! K to 1 stitch before the next marker, KFB (or M1), SM, K to the next marker, SM, KFB (or M1), K to end. K in round 5[0, 6, 3, 1, 5, 4] more rows. Continue to Body Edging.

BODY EDGING
Switch to smaller needles. Work K1, P1 rib stitches for 26[28, 30, 31, 33, 34, 36] rows. Bind off all stitches in pattern. (Tip: Use needle 1 or 2 size(s) larger for elastic edge.)

SLEEVES (PLAIN WITH NO TAPERING)


Place one arm stitches onto to larger DPNs. Pick up 1[2, 3, 4, 4, 6, 6] stitch(es) from underarm, SM to mark the beginning of round, pick up 1[2, 3, 4, 4, 6, 6] stitch(es). K in round until you have 79[84, 89, 94, 100, 102, 108] rows from underarm. Continue to Sleeves Edging.

SLEEVES (WITH TAPERING)


Place one arm stitches onto to larger DPNs. Pick up 1[2, 3, 4, 4, 6, 6] stitch(es) from underarm,

SM to mark the beginning of round, pick up 1[2, 3, 4, 4, 6, 6] stitch(es). *K in round 13 rows. K1, K2TOG, K to 3 stitches before the end of round. SSK, K1.* Repeat between ** 4[5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6] more times. K in round 9[0, 5, 11, 2, 4, 10] more rows. Continue to Sleeves Edging.

SLEEVES EDGING
Switch to smaller DPNs. Work K1, P1 rib stitches for 26[28, 30, 31, 33, 34, 36] rows. Bind off all stitches in pattern. (Tip: Use needle 1 or 2 size(s) larger for elastic edge.) Do the same for the other arm.

NECK FINISHING
Pick up an even number of stitches around the neck with smaller needles. Work K1, P1 rib stitches for 7[7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9] rows. Bind off all stitches in pattern. (Tip: Use needle 1 or 2 size(s) larger for elastic edge.) Weave in all ends. Block and show off!
