Paradise
By Matthew Kneale
This story told about a journey of a travel book writer named Neville. Neville always travels everywhere in this world to write report about area that have not been visited by other people and write the story into his travel book guidance. One day, Neville visited Nepal and will go to a place named Khorang in that country. Neville went there as the identity of general tourist, but in half way, he met an army-clothed old man and that old man promoted him to visit a place named Drughat. Neville just agreed the old mans offer. At short time, Neville reached the Drughat and would stay here for one night or two in a Drughat villager named Thakali. Neville spend the night over in Thakalis house, gave a delicious breakfast in the morning and invited by Thakali to see around of Drughat. Neville felt amazed when he saw the situation of the village, so peaceful like in Paradise. No machine rumbled, the villagers worked in field, the children played around the river, and the weather so comfortable in Nevilles mind. He sank in that paradise Drughat and cannot make a plan to left that village at soon. But as the writer, he decided to left that village in the fifth day. Neville said to Thakali his real identity, as a travel book writer. He said to Thakali that he was a writer, so that Neville cancelled his desire to write and expose Drughat in his book, because he afraid that the purity of Drughat will contamined when Dhrugat became commercial and many tourist visited Drughat. After Neville said that, the villagers and Thakali as the nearest person just set up and pressed Neville to write about Drughat in his book, because the villagers of Drughat were lying the Neville as the book writer. The calm, soft, controlled condition were a trick to invited Neville published the travel article in his book and Drughat become famous.
The characters in this story are Neville as main character, Thakali and other Drughat villagers. Neville was a travel book writer, he travels to many place in this world to write his book about spot of beautiful tourism object. Thakali was a Drughat villagers who served Neville when he was visited
Drughat. In this story also appeared character of Drughat vilagers (farmers, children, etc) as a supporting character that did activity around the village, also a old man villagers that commanding Neville to Drughat. This story has many interesting point, from the imagination of Drughat place itself, Drughat seems very interesting because in this story, that place told as a peaceful place and the supporting details. Reader can imagine how Drughats appearance and situation, indirectly the reader also inspired and will come to Drughat (although I dont know about the place is real or fictive). Also the way Thakali served the Neville at first, showing his friendliness to guest from far. It maybe cannot happened in our country if it isnt conditionable at first. Then the tricks appeared in this story also interesting th ings, the tricks is very big applied and there werent any oddity or something makes people sucpicious. It designed very neat and clean. This story also told us about value of honesty in this life. Someone did lie or lying someone could received his/her lie (the trends of people called it as karma), every does we did will return to ourself. In this story, Neville lied at first to the Drughat villagers that he just will view Drughat as a general tourist, but he has a real quest to observe information from Drughat to be exposed. Nevilles lie replied also by Drughat villagers as a fake peaceful that happened there. Neville trapped in the scenario made by the villagers that will be exposed in tourism book. This story is good overall, contain many imagination that makes reader sank into the story, feel the peaceful in this story and told the readers how valuable the honesty is. The timeline flows and the scene can understandable by the readers.
