Cover Letter!
Ever since the dawn of man we have been obsessed to make our quality of life better. When I chose engineering, it wasnt because the pay grade or my parents wishes, it was because to me, life was the greater challenge of how we can improve the quality of life of others, and to answer the greater question of: how meaningful is my life?!

! ! ! ! ! ! !

I simply believe that the measure of achievement & success is not by money or fame, but rather by what we do in our lives that contributes to the advancement of the way we interact with the planet. This didnt come out of nowhere, during my 2nd year in my university Princess Sumaya University for Technology I was appointed the chairman of the IEEE Student Branch, being the youngest since its establishment in 1999. IEEE is an international organisation whos slogan is Advancing Technology for Humanity, a framework engineers must abide by, and a code of ethics that differentiates professionalism from childs play. ! During that period, I chaired the rst Jordanian student conference on energy, with a panel of industry leaders in the energy domain. Thats where things began to change for me, at that year, I was a telecommunications engineer nevermore, I had then became a power and energy engineering student, following my real passion into being a real player in the future energy market, and a prospect energy leader. Once I set my mind that energy is the eld for me, I no longer had in doubt what should I do to make a meaning out of my life, things where clear but the challenge ahead was and is still long.! Realising the devastating effects of the energy crisis in my own country Jordan I founded Senergy, a non-prot NGO dedicated to increase the uptake of sustainable development in Jordan by increasing the penetration of sustainable energy and energy efcient practice among the public. Since then, we are a team of eleven motivated youth led by me dedicated to change the status quo & future of energy in Jordan.! Despite the energy market being uctuating, I have always kept myself updated to the latest the industry and academia has to offer, along being an IEEE member, Im also a member of IET, Power & Energy Society, and National Society of Professional Engineers. I am familiar with the latest technological breakthroughs across the industry. That being said, my main focus and topics that I nd unbelievably captivating are:! 1. 2. 3. 4. The Industrial Internet & Machine to Machine Communications! Distributed Renewable Energy Systems! Big Data, the Smart City & the Smart Grid! Power Quality & Power System Efciency!

Throughout my study and NGO work, I stumbled across more than one of my research interest, for instance, an embedded design project last semester we made was about wireless energy management system that enables mobility and low-level end-user analysis of energy in the house. In our NGO, we install renewable energy systems (mostly PVs) to rural areas through CSR private funding & donations. To me, in order to coupe up with the challenges of this ever-changing world, we must be on the edge of every single breakthrough. Im highly competitive in that regard, Im ready to read about innovations all-day long just to get the competitive edge and make a difference.! I am also well established in Simulink MATLAB and PSCAD, and have a handful knowledge in several other tools at my disposal including some programming languages, such as C, and Im a fast learner, but lately I have been fond by the strategic planning and management side of things. Throughout my work I have come to appreciate art and design, and to me its really important how something looks or feels because its the customer whos going to utilise it, making it a lot easier, nicer, and loveable to use just makes loyalty appear, take apple for instance. Im not a fan of copying, although I do agree to learn from innovations and success stories. Good artists copy, great artists steal.. Doesnt say anything about engineering or technology, this assures that we are bound to advance, not replicate.!

In the past 3 years in my university, I had education in courses in power systems, transmission and distribution, protection systems, renewable energy systems, energy economics and payback of projects, project management, procurement and logistics of energy projects, high voltage planning, substation design and markets.! My plan in the upcoming years is to expand my skills and experience in the worldwide energy market and advance my understanding of the technicalities of how to take old cities to the 21st century being as efcient as possible. I see myself in a leadership position more than an engineering one, although my rst years might start with engineering, my ultimate goal is to lead organisations & businesses to its ultimate success.! Although I promised myself not to quote people so as it seems as a cliche, I am tempted to end my statement with what one of my great aspirations once said: I think life on Earth must be about more than just solving problems... It's got to be something inspiring, even if it is vicarious. Elon Musk!
