Northbound traffic is detoured through Westbench area, large vehicles are getting by on shoulder. Southbound traffic was clear, currently stopped while logs are being pushed off of the road. Expected to be open within the hour. Roads were bare and dry Ill let you know when its clear.

Minister Response: Not requested; email bullets fine Topic: Logging truck accident on Dec. 23 on Highway 97 just north of the Okanagan River Channel bridge / speeding issues in this area Brett has heard complaints from motorists that logging trucks regularly speed through this area and run lights. He has spoken with Rick Dellebuur (Penticton RCMP) who has also heard complaints. Questions: 1. Are we aware of these concerns / complaints? 2. Are we investigating? 3. Are there any plans to monitor this area for violations. Contact info: Mark Brett, 250.492.3636 / photos@pentictonwesternnews.com Deadline: Thursday a.m. latest
Suggested response: Ministry staff are aware of speeding concerns/complaints in this area. Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement staff regularly monitor this section of Hwy 97. Safety is the ministrys highest priority. CVSE staff will continue to monitor and patrol Hwy 97 and adjacent municipal streets to enforce speeding and aggressive driving violations RCMP are leading the investigating the Dec 23 rollover and have not requested a mechanical inspection of the truck. We cannot comment on whether speed was a contributing factor in the rollover until the RCMP investigation is complete.
