Naproxen is practically insoluble in water but soluble in ethanol, chloroform, ether, and methanol. Naproxen sodium is soluble in water and methanol but slightly soluble in ethanol and very slightly soluble in acetone. The solubility of naproxen, its salts, and naproxen sodium were reported at pH 2.0 and 25 degrees Celsius. A study found precipitation of naproxen sodium solutions at pH below 8 overnight but no precipitation at pH 8 or above for up to 6 months, and formulated a stable parenteral preparation of naproxen sodium, propylene glycol, and other components at pH 8. Naproxen is a white powder while naproxen sodium is a white to creamy crystalline

Solubility
naproxen is practically insoluble in water, it is soluble 1 in 25 of ethanol. 1 in 15 chloroform, 1 in 40
of ether, and 1 in 20 of methanol. naproxen sodium is soluble in water, sparingly soluble in ethanol, soluble in methanol, very slightly soluble in acetone, practically insoluble in chloroform. the solubility of naproxen free acid and its salts was found to increase in the order, naproxen free acid < calcium salt < magnesium salt < sodium salt < potassium salt. at 25 o and pH 2.0 the solubilities of naproxen and naproxen sodium were reported to be 6.9 x 10 -5 M and 1.0 x 10 -4 M respectively. kelarutan naproxen adalah praktis tidak larut dalam air, sifatnya yang larut dalam 1 25 etanol.
Stability Peswani and Lalla. studied the formulation and stability of naproxen sodium in parenteral dosage forms. Precipitation occurred in aqueos solutions of naproxen sodium (13.7%) stored overnight at 4 pH 7.0. 7.5. 8.0. and 9.0. At pH 8 or greater, no precipitation occuried fo up to 6 months in solutions of naproxen sodium (13.7%) in a propylene glycol : water (40:60) vehicle at 4: however, at pH values below 8 precipitation occurred overnight. One formulation (naproxen sodium 13.626%, naproxen 0.062%, propylene glycol 40%, benzyl alcohol 0.5% ; pH 8) was selected for accelerated stability studies. Thermal degradation of naproxen sodium was first-order (activation energy 33.1 kJ mol) and the shelf-life was determined to be 4.2 years. The preparation was stable to autoclaving. Samples of the formulation that were packaged in ampoules and scaled under air had a faster thermal degradation rate than those packaged in ampoules scaled under nitrogen.
