The following applica- tion guidelines are intended to help you to prepare a competitive application for our program. Please read them carefully. Documents of application To apply for admission to the Master Program in Computational Science and Engineering, you rst have to register and apply in TUMonline (https://campus.tum.de). Print out the form provided at the end of the online application, sign it and include the documents listed at the end of the form. Here are some further informations about the re- quired documents: Application form: You should only use the form provided at the end of the online application in TUMonline. Do not forget to sign the form, and attach a recent photograph. Curriculum vitae: Particularly including your academic education, research or teaching experience, and skills in the eld of scientic computing. Statement of purpose (one or two pages): The motivation letter should have a length of one or two pages. It should include your rea- sons for undertaking graduate work in Compu- tational Science and Engineering. Ofcially authenticated copy of Bachelor, Diploma, or Master Degree: Including your aggregate mark or graduate av- erage (again with explanation of grading sys- tem), and your overall rank in class. Ofcially authenticated copy of complete uni- versity transcript of records: Also called semester mark sheets. They should list all your subjects and the corresponding grades. English prociency test : If English is not your native language and the instruction language during your secondary ed- ucation was not English, you have to hand in one of the following English prociency tests: An ofcial TOEFL score report ; the min- imum TOEFL score for admission to the CSE program is 88 (internet-based test (IbT)), 234 (computer-based test (CbT)), 605 (paper-based test (PbT)), resp. TUMs institution code is 7806, our department code is 78. See http://www.toe.org/ for further information. A valid IELTS score report. The mini- mum score for admission is 6.5. Only Aca- demic test will be accepted. General test is not valid. Further information on IELTS is available at http://www.ielts.org/ Grades A, B or C in Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or Cambridge English: Prociency (CPE) test. Two letters of recommendation: Please offer two letters, not less and not more. Please ask persons to offer you a recommen- dation letter why can offer current data to your person and who optimally work in the area of CSE. The certicate has to in- clude your aggregate mark or graduate av- erage (with explanation of grading system). Please, also include documents about your uni- versity entrance test (if existing in your country). Scores of the GRE General Test (optional) Authentication of all documents (where it is indicated) will be accepted only if performed by the German Embassy or Consulate in your home country, or by the institution that has issued the original document. In Germany, authentication can also be performed by the respective citizens registration (Einwohner- meldeamt). If the documents are not in English or German, of- cially authenticated translations have to be added. Please note that authentication too, must be per- formed in English or German language. As we do not charge an application fee, we can not guarantee the return of your documents. Therefore, do not submit any original documents (except TOEFL, recommendation letters, and where specif- ically requested). Please note that incomplete applications and applica- tions containing documents that have not been prop- erly authenticated will not be considered. Deadline for application: The application deadline for the CSE program is May, 31. All required documents must be received by this date. Applicants can submit their documents earlier. A rst batch of applications will be processed after March. Thats interesting for all international applicants who need to do additional administrative stuff like visa ap- plication, etc. and so are dependent of an early ad- mission oder rejection. If your nal degree certicate and nal year tran- scripts are not yet available at this time, please sub- mit a recent transcript of record containing all your available individual results. You should then hand in your degree certicate and the missing transcripts as soon as you receive them. Submitting the application: Gather all application documents, and submit them as one complete package to the Admission Ofce (Immatrikulationsamt) of TU M unchen: Technische Universit at M unchen Immatrikulationsamt Arcisstr. 21 80333 M unchen Germany They will forward your application to us after checking the documents for validity. Applications or documents submitted by fax or e-mail cannot be accepted. Please reduce the use of pack- aging and binding material (folders, transparent cov- ers, separate envelopes, pins, etc.) to an absolute minimum (recommendation letters and ofcial tran- scripts excepted). You will get a conrmation by e- mail, as soon as your application has reached us. Do not submit your application through mediators like educational consultants or agencies, as those will not be considered. Admission: Selection for the Master Program in Computational Science and Engineering will be made by the Appli- cation Board on the basis of the documents of appli- cation. Applicants should prepare for having to take a telephone interview in addtion to sending the appli- cation documents. Applicants will be notied by mail as soon as their admission has been decided. On admission, you will get an ofcial letter of admission from TUM and you will be asked to accept the university place via TUM- online. Please do so in time (there will be a deadline for acceptance)! The admission letter will tell you fur- ther details on the enrolment. Financial Aspects: The tuition fee introduced in 2007 was abolished in 2013, so that starting from winter term 2013/14, you only have to pay the fee for the student union, which is 111 Euro.
