What would growth mean in a family? Perhaps one could say that more children would be family growth.
But this is hardly it unless it should be accompanied by other forms of growth. Family growth would mean
increased capacity to supply the materials needs of the family. However, the needs of a family are not just
material. In fact, they are principally spiritual. Hence, family growth means very much more than just increased
capacity to meet material needs. The family is the workshop for social living. In it, the young children should grow
in learning how to be responsible, how to cooperate, how to trust. Family growth therefore would correspondingly
mean that father and mother become more and more adept at handling the children. It would mean increased
love and unity among the members of the family. It would more cooperation and self-sacrifice, less jealousy, and
fewer squabbles. This would be family growth.
