What is the Health Services Fee?

Summer: $16
Fall/Spring: $19
The state-mandated health services fee is collected to cover the cost of secondary student
accident insurance and to help fund the operational expenses of the Health Services Center.
This fee allows you to see a nurse, counselor or
nurse practitioner at no charge.
There is a nurse available every day from 9:00
am to 3:00 pm (available on a drop-in basis).
There is a nurse practitioner on Wednesday
from 10:00 to 2:00 (appointment required).
Marriage and Family Therapy counselors are
available by appointment 4 days/week; students
are eligible for up to 6 sessions per semester at
no charge.
At certain times during the semester Health Services offers flu shots for only $15.
Stop in and see the folks in Health Services for
any of your health needs!

I need to show Ive met a course

prerequisite, what do I do?

It depends. If the prerequisite was taken at

MiraCosta College, you dont need to do
anything; the registration system is set up to
automatically clear your prerequisite. If you
took the prerequisite at another institution
you need to bring (or send) your transcript
to the Admissions and Records Office in the
Administration Building, and then complete
the Requisite Review Form. This form can be
found on the Admissions and Records website. It generally takes 3 to 5 business days to
clear a prerequisite.

I need to get my credits from another school evaluated, what do I do?

The first step is to have official transcripts sent from each school you have attended
to MiraCosta College. You can then make an appointment with a counselor to help you
through the process of requesting the evaluation.

What do I do if I think Im ready to receive my Certificate or Degree?

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS! In order to be awarded a degree or certificate you must

apply for the degree or certificate. There are very strict deadlines that you must adhere
to when submitting these petitions (they are listed in the Class Schedule). You can find the
forms online:
Petition for Associates Degrees
Petition for Certificate of Achievement
Petition for Certificate of Proficiency

How can I be successful in my classes?

We are proud to offer a wide variety of wonderful (and FREE) Student Success Workshops
on topics ranging from overcoming math anxiety to time management.

Blackboard and SURF hate me! Help!

If you have trouble logging onto Blackboard or your SURF account, we have help standing by.
Contact the Student Help Desk at 760.795.6655 (or use the phones in the Student Services
area and dial 6655 directly), or dial toll free 888.201.8480 ext. 6655.
Check out the Student Help Desk website.

Do I need a parking permit?

Yes. All students who plan to park on campus must have a parking permit. Permits
are available for purchase in the Student Services area in the Administration Building.
Daily permits are available for purchase for $1/day. The machine for purchasing daily
parking permits is located near the Campus Police kiosk at the entry to campus. Note:
generally, the Campus Police do not ticket in the student lots the first two weeks of
school. Staff parking spaces and disabled person parking spaces are always monitored.

What deadlines do I need to be aware of?

Be aware of deadlines for adding, dropping or withdrawing from classes, as well as the deadline for requesting a pass/no pass grade.

When do I take my final exam?

The date should be specified in your class syllabus, consistent

with the final exam schedule. You may have different class meeting times during the last week of the semester. Check with your
instructor, and check the final exam schedule.

What is College Hour?

College Hour, which takes place twice a

month on Thursday from 12:15 to 1:15, is
an event that is organized by the Associated
Student Government and designed to encourage students to get to know one another and
feel more connected to MiraCosta College.
There is plenty of research in the academic
world demonstrating that students who are
connected and involved in extracurricular
activities on campus are more likely to be
successful both in their studies and in their
chosen careers. There is FREE FOOD and a
variety of entertainment, so we encourage
you to come to College Hour!

Where is Lost and Found?

Lost and Found is located in the Student Services area in the Administration Building.
