This new course in our calendar is led by the guitarist, composer and teacher Steve Marsh.
The weekend will be spent working on the five-movement guitar orchestra composition The
Gothic Suite by Steve Marsh. We are looking for players from around grade 4 upwards and
the music will be sent out to each individual participant approximately four weeks before the

Steve Marsh lives with his wife Nadia and four dogs
in the town of Bakewell, situated in the beautiful and
picturesque central area of England known as the Peak
District. Here, he and his wife have a thriving classical
guitar studio from where they teach. Steve has given
numerous recitals throughout the UK including recorded
and live broadcasts for the BBC and performances in
historic venues including Chatsworth House, Bolsover
Castle, Wallington Hall and a prestigious performance at
Hampton Court Palace, London in front of the British
ex-Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie, Sir Cliff
Richard and other famed celebrities.
Steve has performed and recorded in several duo
partnerships including ones with guitarists Lorraine
Eastwood, Gary Spolding and Paul Fowles and flautist
Elaine Thompson. For over 25 years he has toured with folk singer Judy Dunlop, one of the
UKs finest singers and together they have released four recordings. Steve currently performs
concerts with his wife as The Ashlea Guitar Duo and they are both members of the Peak
Guitar Quartet.
As a composer, he has had numerous editions of his original works and arrangements for
guitar published by various publishing houses around the world and in the year 2000 he began
his own publishing company called Lathkill Music, which specialises in new music for the guitar.
Steve is currently working with British guitar-legend Gordon Giltrap in a huge project to
publish all his compositions for guitar over the next few years.
Steve has been on the reviewing team of Classical Guitar magazine for over 20 years and in
that time has reviewed over two thousand publications, recordings and concerts.

Hitchin train station, which is served by fast, frequent
trains from Cambridge, Peterborough and London
Kings Cross. Road access from the A1(M) and the M1
is swift, and we are within easy reach of Luton and
Stansted airports. Call us if you need help in planning
your journey.
Checking in
Courses begins with tea at 6.30pm and you can register
and occupy your room from 4.30pm onwards. Courses
end at approximately 4pm on the last day.
