    RELEASE OF NEW ACCESSORY SEALS


    1.

    Effectivity
    Engines
    All Rolls-Royce Model 250 Series I and II engines are affected by this bulletin.
    Spares - Not affected

    2.

    Purpose
    The purpose of this Commerical Service Letter (CSL) is to announce the release of lip seal
    (23091467) to the gearbox accessory seal locations, replacing lip seal (23079054). The release
    of the seal was authorized and explained in M250 PIL 2013-005-C.
    The existing installation and removal tooling (Tool Kit 6796941) will be used for the new seals.
    The installation tool, (6796941-17) (FIG. 1) will need to be modified to fit over the supplied
    installation mandrel. The 0.882-0.884 in. (22.40-22.45 mm) ID will need to be drilled out to
    1.104 in. (28.08 mm) to fit over the supplied installation mandrel. A note will be added to the
    applicable OMM installation instructions to remind maintainers of this required modification.
    NOTE:

    3.

    Modification of the 6796941-17 installation will still install the older lip seal,
    (23079054).

    Installation
    Installation instructions listed in the applicable Operation and Maintenance Manual will remain the
    same.
    CAUTION:

    DO NOT HANDLE OR TOUCH THE I.D. OF THE LIP SEALS. DAMAGE TO THE
    LIP SEALS CAN OCCUR.

    Lip seal (23091467) is interchangeable with the previous lip seal (23079054) ONLY if shaft sleeve
    (23089553) is NOT installed. If required, use appropriate maintenance instructions to remove
    shaft sleeves prior to the installation of lip seal (23091467). Shafts must be inspected for removal
    damage, and appropriately repaired (i.e. shaft honing procedure), if a sleeve is removed.

    Apply the engine oil to the mating shafts of the lip seal prior to installation. During installation use
    the supplied mandrel for guide during installation. The mandrel must be fully seated against the
    gearshaft endface and care must be taken to smoothly transition the sealing lip onto the gears haft
    journal without damaging the lip. Visually inspect installed lip seal for squareness and integrity of
    the O.D. fit.
    5.

    Removal
    The removal tool, (6796941-201) will be used to remove the new seal, (23091467); modifications
    to this tool detail are not required. Removal instructions listed in the applicable Operation and
    Maintenance Manual will remain the same.
