From Governors Desk

Mr. N.VAGHUL
Former Chairman, ICICI Bank Ltd., Chairman,
Board of Governors, IFMR

The dream is to invest in quality students

and produce jewels. Over a period of
time, we will create this reputation. The
people who walk out of this institute will
be the people who create an intellectual
revolution in the country. This will
certainly transform it into reality.
Dr. NACHIKET MOR
Member, Central Board, Reserve Bank of India
Member, Board of Governors, IFMR

What we offer in the MBA programs

should stay with you for the next two or
three decades. It should not be that when
you walk out of the institution, what you
have learned is dated information.
Sometimes the concern is the course is too academic. Are the
students really relevant in the real world? It is a balancing act.
And what we are aiming for is the finished product.

We, at IFMR, keep constantly

revamping our existing courses and also
create new ones to deal with the current
economic issues. The students are made
to become familiar with the new market
realities and at the same time not
compromising on the academic rigor.

Prof. G.BALASUBRAMANIAN, Dean, IFMR

The rigorous curriculum, with both
theoretical and practical applications of
concepts, delivered through a blend of
lectures, case studies and activities, by a
team of dedicated multi-disciplinary
faculty, ensures better internalization of
concepts and develop a managerial
orientation. Computing skills are a natural
by-product of the pedagogy due to the heavy emphasis on
information technology based delivery and practice.
In addition, the students are exposed to a number of seminars,
given by various visiting international faculty and industry experts,
on a wide variety of topics related to management and related
disciplines. The idea is to develop a holistic perspective and
appreciation in the students.

Prof. P.K. BISWAS, Director, Academics, IFMR

India is one of the fastest growing economies of the world. It is imperative that management education
should help in creation, dissemination and application of knowledge in a way that helps to bring about
profound transformation of society and the nation. IFMR, since its inception has created a niche for itself
in the field of finance. However, over a period of time it has become a fully integrated B School, a
premier Management Institute of India. IFMR has focused on translating critical aspects of management
education into pragmatic managerial excellence, organizational development and path-breaking research.
By way of strategic alliance with Corporate, Industry, Academia and Civil society, we train and groom our
students to be catalysts in the growth and development of India.
Along with the academic knowledge, we also facilitate students in overall personality development, through various activities,
seminars & presentations. IFMR provides a platform for out-ofthe-box thinking, exploring and experimenting novel ideas. We
welcome you to IFMR and wish you a good future.

About PGDM
The primary objective of the PGDM program is to facilitate students to become successful managers. To achieve this
objective the program incorporates the following features:First, it provides a strong foundation in management by offering a set of core courses in the areas of Accounting,
Economics, Finance, Marketing, IT & Operations and Human Resource Management. The 2 month summer internship
gives the students hands-on practical exposure and the valuable experience of working on a project. Building from
these disciplines the program offers a wide range of relevant and contemporary electives in which students can
specialize in the second year.
Second, the content of these courses is continuously revamped to ensure that it reflects critical business issues that
organizations face today. This process is aided by wide ranging academic and research partnerships that IFMR has
with other leading business schools in the world and its own research centers focused on key areas of development
and sustainability. In addition, the faculty members who teach this program are eminently qualified in their respective
domains and thus add significant value to the classroom experience and the program.
Third, IFMR's selection policy is oriented towards diversity in classrooms. PGDM students are not only from different
states but also have varied backgrounds in terms of educational specialization and work experience. This ensures a
diverse and culturally rich learning environment where the emphasis is on learning from each other through discussions
and gaining an understanding of 'reality' in organizations.
Fourth, IFMRs PGDM program provides opportunities for students to
interact with practicing managers from leading organizations. The
state-of-the-art academic infrastructure ensures that students have
access to all the latest learning tools including online journals and
databases.
Fifth, the PGDM program provides flexibility to the students to
pursue different careers in industry. IFMR has had a consistently
excellent record of placement. The students passing out of this
course have been placed in many leading organizations in
sectors like banking, financial services, equity research,
consultancy, risk management, manufacturing, IT and other
services, many of them being global companies.
IFMRs PGDM program, which is more than a decade old,
has been successful in meeting the expectations of its
different stakeholders. We are confident that the program
would continue to produce outstanding managers and,
we hope you will be one of them.

ABHYUDAYA
The rising sun scatters its first ray of sunshine, promising a new
beginning. This idea is what defines Abhyudaya, the flagship
event of IFMR. An event that makes you question the
ordinary, provokes and inspires you to think out of the box
and leaves you enriched with an experience of renewed
belief. Abhyudaya is particularly known for its 48 hour
marathon event which tests the ability of the participants to
compete under stress.

SAMARTHAN
The Social Service Club of IFMR, founded in 2005, has
been trying to make a difference in the lives of the
under-privileged in our society. Through Samarthan,
students have shown that their role extends beyond
just textbooks and the corporate world. Samarthan
has been striving to provide an interface between
the students, voluntary organizations and society,
ultimately to help build a sustainable and healthy
society. The previous year has seen students get
together and work on events like Worker's day, Joy
of Giving Week, a visit to the New Life Charitable
Trust and the Lashmi BalMahotsav (the flagship

interest in finance and trading among the

with the BSE has a distinction of being the only event in the
institute to be covered on a national television news channel.
The club plans to launch its newsletter and establish its own
investment fund.

SPEAKERS CLUB
The speakers club is a student self-help forum and was
started with the aim of helping the students to nurture
and sharpen their communication and leadership skills.
The club provides a platform for the students to practice
their public speaking skills. It offers various other
opportunities for them to develop their overall
personality and help them in the business environment.
Each session proves to be a great learning experience
for the participants.

THE MARKETING CLUB

MarkaHolic, the Marketing club of IFMR aims at
creating a grass root level interest among the
students and teasing their appetite for marketing
through its three unique events IdEA Burst,
Surviral and Rocket Singh. It also looks to
provide an all-round experience for the
students by floating live project opportunities
in marketing, organizing talks, panel
discussions, workshops, case competitions
and marketing events.

Scholarships & Medals

10% of the students get attractive scholarships ranging up to 50% of tuition fees on a yearly basis based on

There are a few decisions

which change your life;
deciding to join IFMR's
PGDM course after CAT
2001 was surely one of
those for me. PGDM was
an amazing learning
experience & it changed
my perspective towards my
career completely. Being
placed in a fortune 500
manufacturing firm from
the campus was surely the
most decisive moment of
my career. Subsequent
success in my next job with
SAP also derived a lot
from my PGDM.
I currently head the ERP,
SCM, CRM Practices for
HCL AXON & IFMRs is
certainly one of the main
factors which has helped
me reach this level in a
very short span of time.

IFMR provides students

the environment to balance
academics with extra
curricular activities. The top
management and faculties
have always been
supportive and encouraged
us to assume greater
responsibilities, try newer
things and look beyond
academics. We had the
privilege to study and learn
from faculty members of
international repute who
have honed our skills in a
manner that has
personally helped me a lot
in my professional career.

My two years stay at IFMR

has helped me significantly
establish myself as a
