ABANTIA, internationalized Spanish group of applied engineering installations, assembly, maintenance

and energy offers solutions in reference projects since 1944. The group closed 2010 with a net turnover of
EUR 253.4 million, up from 2009 and a pretax profit of 6.4 million, 50% increase.
The ABANTIA group, made today of 2,300 workers, is committed to industrial maintenance and
deployment of solar power plants in Spain, as well as increase of activity in Poland, Mexico, Guatemala
and Qatar, where it concentrates 18% of the total business.
For 2011 the aim is to consolidate the presence in the U.S. and Canada, both organizationally and in the
development of projects in different states.
The group carries out engineering, development and construction of two large thermoelectric solar plants
of concentration. In Les Borges Blanques (Lleida), the installation will have 25 MW and in 2012 will be the
first to incorporate a unit of hybridization with another source of renewable fuel, biomass. Another large
project, of 50 MW, is located in Palma del Ro (Cordoba). In addition, ABANTIA is promoting and building
several photovoltaic plants for a total of 33.4 MW.

IREC is the leading research center in energy in Catalonia. Created in 2008, it specializes in researching
and developing technology in connection with energy savings and efficiency and with renewable energies.
More specifically, it has lines of work in technologies related to micro-grids, electric vehicles, energy
storage, efficiency in buildings, bioenergy and biofuels and offshore wind energy. The center also has an
electricity and power electronics area, another aimed at investigation in research, design and
characterization of materials for energy and a third devoted to socio-technical research in the energy field.
The center will gradually continue to develop until 2014, at which time it will have 160 researchers and

In order to generate key knowledge on this technology, ISFOC is executing a number of power plants from
various technologies: Isofoton from Spain, Solfocus from US and Concentrix from Germany, Emcore from
US, Arima Eco from Taiwan and Sol3G and Renovalia CPV from Spain. The objective of these pilot plants is to
assist the industries in the setting up of pilot fabrication lines. There will also be very valuable information
obtained in the process such as reliability, suitability and production from each technology.
At present, some international projects are being matured and launched. ISFOC will collaborate with its
technological partners, Universities and regional governments. As examples, the NACIR project to be carried
out in Morocco and Egypt, or MASDAR in Abu Dhabi, E.A.U.
