Open Up! Plain English Summary


This is a report from the review set up by the Speaker of the House
of Commons.

Mental Health Care Crisis Agreement


Here is an easy read summary about the Mental Health Concordat.

and organisations will work together to support people who have a
mental health crisis.

Guidance on the Cap on Care Costs


The Department of Health has launched a consultation on the draft
rules to implement the cap on care costs.
They are also looking at policy proposals for a new system for
appeals about care and support.
People will need good information and advice to help them to
understand what the reforms will mean for them.

Winterbourne View Reports


The National Audit Office has done an investigation into how the
government has done in meeting the targets to move people out of
hospital and get better community support after the Winterbourne
View review.
It says they have not met the targets and there is a lot of work to do
to make it happen.

Extra Costs Survey


Are shops and businesses giving you a fair deal?
Do you want to change the way shops and businesses treat
disabled people?
Scope is running a year-long independent inquiry that is looking at
the extra costs faced by disabled people and families with disabled
children and ways of cutting costs.
They are interested in learning more about how disabled people
and their families shop. This includes things that may help or stop
people getting the best deal and ideas that could help in driving
down extra costs.

Having a Voice and Speaking Up


Bradford People First are running a free 30 week course and
National Qualification for people with learning disabilities.
Learn more about the community and the part you play in it.
Learn skills to help you be confident and speak up.
The course will be one day a week for 30 weeks and will be in the
Bradford area

Sheffield Consumers in Research Event


This event will have displays from the patient panels in Sheffield
Teaching Hospital. It will also have stands for local groups who

Wakefield District Safer Places Scheme


Wakefield Council is launching a Safe Place Scheme.
Service users are welcome and so are staff from all partner
organisations that work with dementia, learning disabilities and
autism.
Pontefract Family Centres learning disabilities drama group will be
performing a drama.
The Crime and Police Commissioner, Mark Burns-Williamson and
Councillor Pat Garbutt from the Council will be speaking

Healthy Me Learning Holiday


This is a chance for people with learning disabilities to have a five
day learning break in Skipton.
The focus of the holiday is to get an understanding of how to make
the right choices to have a more healthy lifestyle.
It will be fun and you will learn new skills like cooking, shopping
healthily and exercising.
Trained and experienced staff will support people to enjoy their
holiday or you can bring your own support.
