The passage discusses the unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short, nicknamed the 'Black Dahlia', whose brutally mutilated body was found in 1947 in Los Angeles. Various suspects have been investigated over the years, including recent developments pointing to George Hodel.

Elizabeth Short was a 22-year-old aspiring actress from Massachusetts whose nude, mutilated body was found cut in half in a vacant lot in Los Angeles in January 1947. She had been brutally dissected and her body was posed, leading to her nickname the 'Black Dahlia'.

Recent investigations by Steve Hodel have uncovered old recordings of his father George Hodel admitting the murder and evidence that he was originally a suspect. Traces of human remains were also found on his property. However, the LAPD denies George knew Elizabeth Short.
