History of Mortein
Mortein was first manufactured as an insecticidal
powder in the 1870s by J. Hagemann, a German
immigrant to Australia. It is said that Hagemann
himself came up with the name Mortein, with a little
help from his French wife: the famous name is a
combination of the French word 'mort' (dead) and
the German 'ein' (one).
Hagemann used crushed chrysanthemum flowers to
produce a pyrethrum extract. The powder was
originally sprinkled about, and in the 1920s a
squeeze puffer was developed. Hagemann
introduced a liquid version in 1928. He combined
this with kerosene and had a pump pack designed

State/External Efficacy Reviewer
One efficacy study was provided to support the
application.
The laboratory study evaluated the knock down and

Coil Stands
The mosquito coil stand is as important a
product as the coil, as it provides the base to the
burning coil. Made out of electrolytically
coated tinplate, the product requires accurate
press operation and the use of multiactivity
tools for its manufacture. The product is coated
with special organic chemicals to ensure
resistance to corrosion, proper gloss and good
finish.
The coil is spiral. The center has a notch and has can be
fixed to a sharp pointed edge of coil stand. This stand has
a groove where broken coils can be attached. We burn the
coil and then place it in the center of the room, under a
fan, in the evenings, and with window in open condition
for ventilation and to drive away mosquitoes while
ensuring that outside ones dont risk coming in. I would
advise keep this arrangement in a plate or tray so as to
collect the ash that remains.

An advertisement for Mortein Fly and Insect Killer
(Key No: RCPC 0153 30 K1) was screened on TV
One. The graphics opened with a view of the
landscape as visible from the inside of the
window. A buzzing black dot approached from the
distance and flew, thud, into the window. The
"black dot" was Louie the animated fly character
which said, "Hey you pests in there nah, not
