The article discusses the meaning of marriage as originating from God's plan and being a reflection of the love and unity between Christ and the Church. It also explores marriage as a sacrament in the Catholic faith.

The article says that marriage is seen as originating from God's creation of man and woman in Genesis, and is understood as a sacrament reflecting the union between Christ and the Church. It is considered part of God's plan from the beginning of creation.

Details are provided about upcoming weddings between couples in the third publication of banns, as well as masses celebrated for birthdays, anniversaries, and in remembrance or thanksgiving for souls of passed loved ones.

Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity (Year B)

Vol. XXIV No. 25

What Does It Mean to Believe in the Holy Trinity?

hen I was a small child, the first

prayer I learned was the Sign of
the Cross. I would always ask my
mother how does it come about that there
Is One God but in Three Persons. How can
three become one? How can one become
three? My mother would be at a loss of what
answers to give. But at that early age I was
fond of thinking, each time I made the Sign
of the Cross, about how could that happen.
I would ask my father how it happens that
I have him as my father but I still have a
Father in God. My father would just smile
and say Son, I dont know it myself, but I
just know that as your father I must be like
God the Father in the best way I can. That
struck me. To believe in God the Father
means, for my father, to be like the Father
for his son (me). It demands more from
him to be like the Father so that I can come
to believe in God the Father. For me, to
believe in God the Father is to believe that
someone cares and never leaves you and
that precisely I learn from my father, the
earthly image of God the Father. With all the
imperfections of my father, he mirrored to
me the faithful presence of God the Father.
Without my father, it may be difficult for
me to believe in God the Father.
I would also ask my mother, who is
the Son? She would do a catechesis of the
Incarnation of Jesus, God made man. Gods
love for us is shown in sending His Son Jesus
to the world so that we would be saved, she
would always say. I got the idea, at that
early age, that in order to love you have to
be one with the beloved, to be where the
beloved is and to live as the beloved lives.

Rev. Fr. Domingo Rafael A. Alimajen Jr.

source: imgkid.com
This is incarnation. I carry this belief in my
heart until now as a priest in the ministry.
This is what belief in Jesus, as taught by my
mother, has done in my life.
What is the Holy Spirit? Why is the
Spirit pictured as a dove? This I would
always ask my mother. She would always
respond that the Spirit is pictured as a dove
because it is a dove-like fire at Pentecost. I
would not understand that and would ask
more questions. Tired, my mother would
just blow my hair and say ssshhh just
to keep me quiet and say Thats the Holy
Spirit, the soft wind that blows in your
hair. That may not be theologically precise

but that left an impression on me about the

Spirit the peaceful breath of God. Thus, I
should not worry and I should be at peace
because the Spirit will takes care of me, like
my mother blowing her soft breath on my
hair.
This is my childhood experience of
what it means to believe in the Trinity. It
is obvious that this belief was embodied
by my parents and, like the air I breathe, I
assimilated it naturally in my life. Belief in
the Holy Trinity, no matter how technically
difficult it is to express in words, becomes
easy if it is lived by the parents for their
children.

Today is Seminary Sunday. Our

Collection will be given to the Saint Vincent
Ferrer Seminary as a sign of our collective
support for the formation of our future
priests. Let us be more generous. Thank
you and God bless us all.

ANG SAKRAMENTO SANG KASAL

a nagligad nga isyu, sa akon pagpaathag

kon ano ang kasal akon ginsiling nga ang
pagsugod sang kalibutan.
Apang ginasaysay man sa Libro sang
Genesis nga ang tawo ang lalaki kag babayi
indi nangin matutom sa pagtuman sining
ginmando sang Dios sa ila nga sila magmanginisa sa tanan nga bahin sang ila pagkatawo,
kag sa amo man nga tion nagapabilin sila nga

Espiritu Santo?
Ang matuod nga debosyon sa Santisima
Trinidad nagakinahanglan nga magpamunga
sa aton kabuhi. Paano bala mahanabo ini?
Subong nga ang Amay kag ang Anak
kag ang Espiritu Santo may malapit nga
kaangtanan sa isa kag isa, kita ginaagda man
nga mangin maayo sa pagpakigrelasyon kag
pagpakigbagay sa iban nga mga tawo. Dapat
wala kita sing pinilian kondi aton ginakabig
kabuhi. Inclusive dapat ang aton relasyon sa
iban kag indi exclusive.
Subong nga ang Santisima Trinidad
nagahiliusa ukon nagahugpong, kita ginatawag
man nga maghiliusa bilang pamilya kag
katilingban nga Kristiano. Paagi sa paghiliusa,
may kusog kag kabakod kita sa pag-atubang
sang mga pagtilaw kag pagpanghangkat sa aton
kabuhi.

sini sang Dios sang Iya pagtuga sang tawo,
kundi nga isa man ini ka Sakramento sang
Simbahan nga Katoliko suno sa gintudlo ni
Jesukristo.
Sa sini nga paghangop, ang kasal
ginatan-aw nga isa ka padayon nga buhat
sang pagluwas, nga napasad sa ministeryo ni
Kristo kag ginapadayon sang Simbahan kag

kon ginabantala kag ginaselebrar sing may

pagtuo, ini nagapakita kag nagapakig-ambit
sing minatuod sa gugma kag sa pagkatutom
sang Dios dira kay Kristo nga Iya ginpakita
sa Iya Misteryo Paskwal. Kon sayuron, ang
gugma sang lalaki kag babayi ginapasantos
sa Sakramento sang Kasal kag nahimo
nga salaming sang walay katapusan nga
paghigugma sang Dios.

4. Ang Kinatuhay sa tunga sang Kasal nga

Gintukod sang Dios kag sang Sakramento sang
Kasal nga ginsugoran ni Kristo.
Agod nga indi magsala-sala kag
mahangpan sang tanan ang gintudlo sang
Simbahan nahanungod sa kasal, amo ini ang
dapat panumdumon:
nga sahi sang kasal, wala ginatan-aw kon ano
sing may paghirupay kag paghigugma,
nagabuligay sa isa kag isa, kag bukas sila sa
pagbaton sang bag-o nga kabuhi nga mangin
bunga sang ila pag-asawahay.

daw imposible. Paagi sa paghiliusa, maangkon

naton ang kalipay, kasadya kag paghidaet sa
aton taguipusuon sa pihak sang madamo nga
mga problema sa kabuhi.
Sa katapusan, subong nga ang kabuhi
sang Santisima Trinidad gugma - kay ang
Amay nagahigugma sa Anak kag ang Anak

nagahigugma sa Amay kag ang bunga sang

ila paghigugma amo ang Espiritu Santo - kita
ginahangkat man nga magkabuhi sa gugma.
Paagi sa aton paghigugma sa Dios kag sa isa
kag isa, maangkon naton ang paghiliusa. Amo
paghigugma sa ngalan sang Dios sa Langit sa
aton taguipusuon. Wala lamang kita ginatawag
nga maghigugma, kundi ginahangkat kita nga
mangin gugma - BE LOVE!
Sa sining pagsaulog naton sang
Solemnidad sang Santisima Trinidad,
mangamuyo kita nga mapangabuhi naton
sa matag-adlaw nga tanan ang kabuhi sang
Amay, Anak kag Espiritu Santo. Kabay pa nga
sa tagsa naton ka pagpanguros, madumduman
naton ang panawagan sang Dios nga mangin
gugma kag maghigugma, maghiliusa kag
magpakigbagay sing maayo sa tanan nga mga
tawo. Amen!

Oh lala para sa amon nagakahulugan
sang amazement ukon awe kag kalipay. Ini

eksperyensya ang ma-encuentro si Jesus kag
makita ang Ginoo sa iban nga tawo. (Ohh lala...

ARCHDIOCESAN News
Mother of Life Image Goes on Jubilee Pilgrimage to Jaro

he revered Image of the Mother of

Life went on pilgrimage to Jaro and
her parishioners after fifty years of
existence. Of particular interest was her visit
to the graduates of Pius XII Institute who
had successfully undergone formation and
religious education in the Masteral Program
Master of Arts Degree in Religious Education
at the Mother of Life Center, Novaliches,
Quezon City. Theme of the jubilee celebration
is: Magnificat! Continuously Journeying
Together with Mary, Mother of Life.
The professors of the Center who
went with the pilgrimage expressed their
gratitude for having Pius XII Institute as their
powerhouse. They were a little bit relieved
from campaigning for more students, for our
graduates who finished the degree in Bachelor
of Science in Education major in Catechetics
took interest in updating themselves at the
MOL center.
The visit of the Blessed Mother brings

the good news of Gods love, peace and joy not

only for the graduates but for all those around.
She leads the way in order that we may open
our doors to the Redeemer and ponder in
ones heart Gods marvelous mercy.
Since its establishment in 1967, the
Mother of Life Center (MOL) has produced
hundreds of graduates coming from seventyseven dioceses of the Philippines, as well as
from other countries: China, India, Indonesia,
Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Palau, Singapore,
France and Germany. The graduates of Pius
XII Institute enjoyed the full scholarship
program, which covers big expenses of
tuition, as well as board and lodging at the
Center during the academic year.
As of now there are thirty-two Pacellians
(derived from the name of Pius XII, Eugenio
Pacelli) who are already MOLians. To God
alone Be the glory!

Jaro Renews Commitment as Church of the Poor

ARO, Iloilo City, May 27, 2015 The

Archdiocese of Jaro renewed its
commitment as the Church of the Poor
as it celebrated the Golden Anniversary of the
dedication of its Cathedral and 150 years as a
diocese on May 26 and May 27, respectively .
We need to intensify our dedication
and efforts to achieve the vision of renewal
that the PCP II and Third Diocesan Synod of
Jaro drew up - a vision of a Church that is
renewed, alive, and participative, evangelized
and evangelizing a Church of the Poor, Jaro
Archbishop Angel N. Lagdameo told the
clergy and the rest of the faithful during a
Eucharistic celebration on the anniversary
of the dedication of St. Elizabeth of Hungary
Cathedral on May 26.
A Church for all
The prelate said the vision and goal of
the Church of the Poor is not a Church that
excludes the rich, or any sector of society,
but one that includes everyone: the poor
and the rich, the educated and not educated,
the professionals and non-professionals
He stressed that to reach this goal everyone
in the Archdiocese should work to evangelize
every parish by building up the new way
of being Church by giving witness of our
faith to others through the Magagmay nga

Kristianong Katilingban (MKK) or BEC (Basic

Ecclesial Community).

Significance of dedication
To explain the significance of the
anniversary of the dedication of its Cathedral,
Msgr. Alejandro P. Esperancilla, Special
Assistant for Liturgical Affairs of the National
Shrine of Our Lady of Candles, made reference
to the rite of dedication that coincided with the
three-day celebration of Jaros Centennial on
May 25-27, 1965.
According to the priest, the rite began
in the afternoon of May 25 with a solemn
procession of the relics of St. Elilzabeth

(Photo: Felipe Uygongco)

of Hungary from the St. Vincent Ferrer

Seminary to the Cathedral grounds, where it
was placed for the veneration of the faithful.
Dedication means taking possession of a place
solely for God and for worship, he explained.

Living stones, people of God

The dedication of the Church is the feast
of all the people of God called to gather each
Sunday for the celebration of the Eucharist,
Msgr. Esperancilla said, noting that the
altar is anointed with oil since it will come to
symbolize Christ, the Anointed, who remains
the priest, the Altar and the lands offered
as a worthy sacrifice to the Father for the
redemption of all.

He asked the faithful present to reflect

on the symbolic value which the Altar and the
Cathedral walls communicate, saying, We are
the Church made of living stones and Christ is
the cornerstone the Altar from which flows
the living waters of grace.
This church building which was dedicated
solely for God, symbolizes the dedication and
consecration to God of every Christian born
in the community throughout the ages. She
was, is and will be a mother to us all, Msgr.
Esperancilla added.

OLCPC Charismatics Celebrate Pentecost Sunday

aro Charismatics opted to have the

celebration of the Churchs Birthday at
the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Kinder School
grounds last May 24, 2015.
Bro. Pol Gregorio, Chairman, asked
permission from the Asst. Principal of St.
Elizabeth of Hungary Kinder School for the
use of the stage and the quadrangle. The old
and new members agreed at a meeting to
celebrate Pentecost Sunday in order for them
to feel and recall the outpouring or descending
of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles.

CANDLE LIGHT (May 31-June 6, 2015)

Fr. Randy Doromal was the presider

during the noontime Eucharistic Mass. His
homily centered on the renewal of the face of
the earth. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed the
simple and delicious food.
The celebration was like an excursion
after the Mass because of the informal set
up. After eating, we went home with full
stomachs, feeling like having attended a fiesta
that Sunday.
May I share the text messages I received
during Pentecost Sunday:

Let us celebrate the coming of the Holy

Spirit Who lives in us till the end of time.
Let us preach Christs love with our
deeds to our family and community.
For the hungry He is Bread.
For the Lost He is the Way.
For the Confused He is Truth.
For the Hopeless He is Life.
And to all: He is Christ Jesus, our Lord.
Praise the Lord!

Philosophy: A Lens to Reality

ife is a mystery. And, each unknown

reality we encounter entails a lot
of questions. For each problem we
confront, from a simple querying about
daily mundane concerns to a more deep
questioning about the purpose and
meaning of life, we look for answers.
Unfortunately, we are often inclined
to ask the wrong questions, which thus
provide us with an unsatisfying answer.
Due to our prevailing hunger for truth
and longing desire for answers, we tend
to change reality from its own truth to our
own wishful versions by asking questions
that would simply give us the answer we
want. Hence, the truth seems to be found.
But in reality it is distanced from us. And
given the fact that the world knows what to
present before us, we tend to be accepting
and uncomplaining to what is offered,
to the extent that unconsciously we are
being manipulated. Hence, we are easily
lured and deceived by the enticement of
modernization. And this can be a moderate

form of modern colonilization. It is not

only the world that is lying to us then, but
primarily, it is us who are lying to ourselves.
As a seminarian, one important lesson
I learned from studying philosophy is
asking the right questions. I believe that to
ask the right question leads us to the right
answer, and it is a big step towards the
truth. Questions are like pathways which
can mislead us or guide us to the right
destination. It is not wrong to ask questions.
It is wrong to ask the wrong questions. But
one thing that prevents us from asking
the right questions is the fear of knowing
the truth. It is undeniable that we desire
what is true. But oftentimes, knowing the
truth entails pain and discontent, which
we naturally incline to avoid, and hence,
causes us to deny it.
Regarding this, philosophy teaches
me two things: awareness and acceptance.
We must be aware of our weaknesses and
fears, and only through this, we can be able
to accept them. Know thyself, as what the

great Socrates had said. We are not only

our strengths but our weaknesses as well.
Thus, knowing and accepting both our
strengths and weaknesses leads us to the
truth.
In conclusion, philosophy does not
only provide a critical and disciplined mind
in order to be an assistance of theology, a
way towards priesthood. But as early as
now, it also teaches us, seminarians and
all those who seek for the truth, not to
be simply accepting and uncomplaining
of what the world offers. We must be
mature enough not to be easily deceived
by the world. For not all that looks good is
always good. Evil is usually in the guise of
goodness. Knowing what is true and what
is good truly demands a lot. Hence, we
need to do better than just accept what we
find seemingly good and agreeing with our
desires. We need to open our eyes, ask the
right questions, be aware and accept who
and what we are. Through this, we will be
able to see reality in its true essence.

Vacation Without Losing My Vocation

ummer is a break from school and now

it is coming to an end. As a sign that it
is already end-time for the beloved hot
sunny season, students are slowly adjusting
to the academe again. Some are finalising
their enrolment. Others are already buying
the needed school materials. Yet in the
view of seminarians, it is a little different.
Although we do have the same tasks to
do, we have a bigger picture to look at.
Every May we have our Summer Pastoral
wherein we stay in a particular parish for
a few weeks helping out in every little way
we can. This is a part of our never-ending
formation which gives us a glimpse of the
parish life. So what was it like?
This year the Summer Pastoral Program
was announced as back to the parish, so
I reported to Msgr. Sergio Jamoyot of Our
Lady of Fatima in Alta Tierra Jaro. This was
going to be my first Summer Pastoral in
the parish, since last year we stayed in the
seminary for the rest of May. Since I was the
only college seminarian of Alta Tierra, I was
alone. You might think that the load was
a bit too heavy for one seminarian alone,
but it wasnt. There are a few stories to tell
about this summer pastoral.
Almost every day the Mass was
celebrated very early especially since there
were nine days of Novena Masses in the
morning and in the evening preceding the
fiesta of Our Lady of Fatima on May 13.
So then, I had to wake up early every day
so that I could still have time for my own
prayers, although during the Novenas prior
to the Mass, I would join them in praying
the Rosary. After the morning Mass and a
little break, Msgr. Serg and I would have
our breakfast. There would be a small table
delicately filled with simple yet delightful
food. After that I was free for the rest of the
morning, excluding the times where there

Pray for Positive Change

Sem. John Paul Trivio

Sem. Joven Joshua Gallardo

would be Masses and other Sacraments

or errands needed to be attended to.
Afterwards, lunch would follow and then
the afternoon Flores.
Children would gather at around 2:30
pm for the Flores. The tradition of the Flores
is to teach children the basic catechesis of
the Catholic Church. Msgr. Serg asked me
if I could help the catechists of the parish
with the afternoon session. So every night I
had to review a few chapters of my book to
prepare myself for the next days session.
I was doing myself a favour by studying
again. I was not only reviewing but I was
also looking at what my faith is and how
it came to be. So, every afternoon I went
down and did a little teaching, teaching
children how to pray and how to deepen
their faith. There would be times that the

children would listen, and most of the time

they wont, but they did understand the
particulars, I hope.
This year we were divided into teams
to conduct the Parish Commission on
Vocation Promotions (PCVP) in the parishes
that had not established their core group.
Sometimes we would go to St. Annes Parish
in Molo to arrange things with Fr. Boy Celis.
Fr. Boy would give us snacks and would let
us see the restoration process of the eleven
images of women saints. During the last
meeting, Fr. Boy treated us to dinner and
gave us some advice on our discernment.
Just recently, Msgr. Joemari Delgado
welcomed our team, in the humble parish
of San Miguel. He asked us if we could help
establish the core group of the PCVP. He
took some of us to a few barangays to serve
at the Mass.
On the last night of our stay, Msgr.
Joemari brought us to join the 75th birthday
celebration of his parishioner. We rode a
pick-up truck to reach the venue. At the
celebration, white roses were given to the
birthday celebrant, and we thought that
only family members had the privilege,
but without our expectation, we were each
handed a white rose to give to the celebrant.
And so we began lining up to give Lola the
rose and at the same time we were greeting
her happy birthday.
So what is this Summer Pastoral about?
Other than giving a glimpse of the parish
life, this Summer Pastoral helps us discern.
This allows us to experience the life that
we are entering. Upon this practice we are
deciding for ourselves if we really want this
vocation or not. We are already putting
ourselves in the situation of the ministry
so that when the time comes, we can now
understand, even just a little, of why God
chose us to be his priest.

commits me here, ever this day, be at my
side to light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.
Sunday:
Lord, take this day as coming from
You To give it back to you, with Your will

for myself. Because You stand beside me

Monday:

Lord God, I cannot see the road
ahead of me. I do not know for certain,
where it will end. I know that you will lead
me by the right road. Though I may know
nothing about it. Therefore, I trust you
always. I will not fear for you are with me
and you will never leave me. To face my
perils alone. Amen

Wednesday:
