In todays rapidly
changing environment,
graduates looking to
start a career whether
in management
consultancy, policy
analysis, financial
services or the corporate
sector need to combine
the rigour of analytical thinking with a strategic
focus. MSc Economics & Strategy for Business has
been developed to address this need.
The focus of the programme is interdisciplinary,
combining advanced courses in both economics
and strategy, and is taught by leading scholars in
those areas at the intersection of organisational
theory and technological innovation. You will
be exposed to a broad range of thinking, from
corporate governance and financial risk to
energy economics, strategy innovation and
implementation.
We focus on understanding theory and its
application to business. As a recent business
graduate, with experience of studying economics
and business, you will develop your analytical skills
and strategic thinking, learning how to apply this
toolkit to a wide variety of situations.
Throughout the programme, we emphasise the
development of problem-solving and decisionmaking skills within an organisational setting,
while our integrated professional development
programme aims to ensure you develop the
necessary soft skills for career success.
This unique combination provides a valuable
platform for you to consider and pursue a more
generalist path in business over the course of
your career.

MSc programmes
THE PROGRAMME
Drawing on the strength of teaching and cutting-edge
research at Imperial College Business School, MSc
Economics & Strategy for Business prepares students
for a dynamic career in business. Youll learn to apply
analytical techniques to the decision-making process and
develop an understanding of the relationship between
strategic management and core business activities.
The programme consists of three distinct phases:
The ESB Core
Consisting of six courses in the autumn term, the
ESB Core provides you with a broad understanding of
the tools required for economics and strategy. Youll
strengthen your understanding of the key economic
frameworks and principles in relation to both
macroeconomics and business economics.
The ESB Advantage
Comprised of five courses, this phase of the
programme in the spring term builds on the ESB Core
to deepen your understanding. It is designed to help
you develop your skills in strategic and innovative
thinking and your ability to consider strategic
implications for specific organisations.
ESB Applications
In the summer term, ESB Applications provides you
with practical experience, applying theories that
you have learned to real-world cases. You will work
on a business simulation, allowing you to integrate
your learning with a focus on decision making. The
Consulting Project, undertaken for a real client, will
enable you to apply the programme material to the
solution of a live problem.
