    Scene 1

    Plan to Return to the Philippines


    (While Trinidad was at the garden, Pepe came.)
    Pepe:

    Trinidad?

    Trinidad:

    Pepe (Embraces Pepe), when did you arrive? (Causing for their mother
    and then they enter to their house.)

    Saturnina:

    Pepe! (Worried) You should not go here Pepe. Dont you know that theres
    someone who wants to kill you?

    Pepe:

    That is a very good way to welcome me my dear sister. (Putting his hand
    on her shoulder) Arent you happy that I am here?

    Saturnina:

    Im so worried. (Embracing him while crying)

    Paciano:

    Dont worry Saturnina, nothing will to happen to Pepe (Pat Rizals


    shoulder). How are you now Pepe?

    Pepe:

    Im good brother.

    Mother:

    Pepe!!! (Run towards Rizal)

    Pepe:

    Mother!!! (embraces his mother)

    Mother:

    (Holda Rizals face) Im so glad that youre here now.

    Pepe:

    Me too mother, Im so glad to see all of you again.

    Mother:

    We are so worried to you Pepe especially when youre not here my son.
    Every day we are praying for your safety.

    Pepe:

    Thank you mother, Im so lucky that I have a family like this who supports
    me.

    Paciano:

    Enough with the greetings. I know you are tired and hungry because of
    your trip. So lets have a luncheon first and then youll rest.

    (Walk towards the kitchen)


    Paciano:

    I have so many things to tell you my dear brother. But whats your reason
    for your homecoming?

    Pepe:

    I have many things to do. but my main goal is to operate mothers eyes.

    Paciano:

    Youre such a good son, Pepe. I am proud that you are my brother. I know
    mother will be very happy.

    Pepe:

    What is the use of studying abroad if I cannot heal mother. I love her so
    much. I want to her to see clearly again. And I want to open a medical
    clinic and start practicing my profession and it also for our countrymen
    who cannot afford treatment. One thing I noticed, most of our people are
    addicted to gambling. (Then Rizal looked away).
    BLACKOUT
    Scene 2
    Terrero Summoned Rizal to Malacaang

    Terrero:

    Hola Seor, (While shake hand), have a sit.

    Pepe:

    Hola! Gracias!

    Terrero:

    I think you know why you are here?

    Pepe:

    Pardon? But is it about my book?

    Terrero:

    (Stand and face the window) Theres some rumors that the book Noli Me
    Tangere provided not pleasant comment about the church, and also to
    the government of Spain. I didnt send you here to judge you without
    sufficient knowledge. Sir, I want to hear your side.

    Pepe:

    I will enlighten you then. The content of the book was only the truth. Thus,
    this is not about the church. This is about the wrong doings of the officials
    that I was pointing about. If this is not truth, then the staff abuses it.

    Terrero:

    The idea you presented me says the truth. I think that youre one of the
    victims. But, before I give the judgment, why dont you give me a copy of
    book for me to know what it deserves.

    Pepe:

    Si Seor Terrero. I will send you a copy. Ill go ahead. (Stand up and walk
    towards the door)

    Terrero:

    But, if the result of the findings is not true, your punishment will take
    seriously sir.

    Pepe:

    (Holding the door knob)I am ready for any punishment.

    Scene 3
    On the dining table
    Boy 1 & 2 (Laughing)
    Boy 1:

    How is the church?

    Boy 2:

    It is good.

    Boy 1:

    Well, Its good to hear.

    (Theres one boy approached them while carrying the paper. He gets mad.)
    Boy 3:

    (Lay the paper on the table.) He didnt know who he is opposing.

    Boy 1:

    WE seemed to be picking this author? Why dont you check out?

    Boy 2:

    Dont worry. I will make sure that he will be helpless.

    Boy 3:

    The church is openly afoul. Anyone who reads his book, consumers will be
    judge of guilt.

    Boy 1:

    Thats a good decision.

    (One boy come and whisper to boy 3)


    Boy 3:

    Is that true?

    Boy 4:

    (He nods)

    Boy 3:

    You can leave. They can do nothing. They do not own the land. If they are
    not able to pay their rent, their assets would become their replacement.
    Scene 4

    House
    (The 2 farmers enter the house)
    Farmer 1:

    You enter.

    Farmer 2:

    (Enters the house) Good evening.

    Girl 1:

    Ah, youre here. (While preparing for their dinner) right on time, dinner is
    prepared. Lets eat.

    (While taking dinner)


    Farmer 2:

    Have you read Noli Me Tangere?

    Farmer 1:

    Yes. It was written by . . . . . . . .

    (Knock on the door)


    (soldiers came) (the 2 farmers stand)
    Farmer 1:

    What can we render?

    Kawal 1:

    I heard that one of you read have Noli Me Tangere. It is forbidden. Is it


    true?

    (Soldiers searched the house and found the bbok)


    Kawal 2:

    General! (Held the book up)

    Kawal 1:

    You are guilty and youre liable for reading this book forbiddingly.

    (The soldiers take the one farmer)


    Scene 5
    Farm
    (The farmers)
    (While doing their chores, the 3 soldiers come.)
    Kawal 1:

    We are confiscating all of your assets for not paying your rent.

    (Kukunin ang alagang hayop)


    Farmer 1:

    we have to tell this to Jose. Ill call the others.


    Scene 6

    At Rizals House
    Pepe:

    (Heard a knock on the door)(Open the door)

    Famers:

    Good afternoon Senor.

    Pepe:

    What can I do for you?

    Farmer 2:

    We need your help.

    Pepe:

    Lets talk inside. Please come in. (ushered the inside and pointed the
    chairs)

    Farmers:

    (Go inside and seat)

    Pepe:

    If I am not mistaken, knowing this concerned that we protest against the


    friars who appropriating your assets.

    Farmer 3:

    Youre right. The Spaniards are getting our properties one by one.

    Farmer 1:

    And we cannot do anything to stop them.

    Farmer 4:

    You are the only one we know who can help us.

    Pepe:

    I see. (Nodding)

    Farmer 1:

    The practices of the Spaniards are not fair. We pay taxes to our land. We
    can have carnage if necessary.

    Farmer 2:

    Carnage? Are you referring to regulation? You are making me laugh; Bolo
    against guns?

    Farmer 4:

    lets not make things worse.

    Farmer 3:

    Nevertheless, we thank you because you enlighten us of the wrong doings


    of the Spaniards although its successor will ruin your life.

    Pepe:

    I will open to help you even if it cost the safety of my family. I will go far
    away. I leave aside the Philippines but my penetration is to achieve the
    freedom of our Filipinos.

    Farmers:

    (Shock)

    Pepe:

    (Stand up)I will lead you to the door.
