Stranded
I could not sleep throughout that night. Not even a minute. It was just because I
might miss the ships or boats that passed by the island. I was shivering cold even if it was
just a gentle breeze. I thought to myself that things would have been different if I did not
take part in that vacation. Never in my mind had that a spectacular vacation at the ocean
would turn out to be my worst experience.
The day before was a joyous one. I embarked on a three-day vacation on a cruise
ship. There were more than 100 people on board together with me. The journey was
amazing. I stood at the walkway outside and allowed the rough breeze to spank my entire
body. It was a calming plight.
The scenic view was splendid across the horizon of the sea as far as the eyes could
see. The sea water was crystal blue and the sky was a magnificent azure. My blissful day
did not stop there. The dusk thrilled me as I sat on a chair nearby the walkway. The sky
gave its golden appeal and the Sun looked like it was sinking into the sea as night began
to unfold. Then, the golden yellow background of the sky changed to twinkling stars. I
was staggered to see the view of the opulent Gods magnum opus. As night grew older,
something totally different started to appear up to the sky. It was too dark. It had darkened
so much that the glimmering stars started to disappear. To my instinct, something bad
might be happening, but I could not figure it out. I went into my room and later dived into
a deep slumber.
Sudden loud ringing awoke me into reality.
This is your captain speaking. All passengers are required to put on your safety gear.
Please head towards the emergency boats! We are having some technical difficulties.
I was taken aback to hear that. To my horror, it was difficult for me to get up from
my bed as the ship was in topsy-turvy. High jinks enshrouded the air. Then I realized,
there was a storm and the waves were high. To my flummox, I dragged myself outside
and saw people running higgledy-piggledy as they did not know what to do. As for me,
the only thing I could remember is that a huge wave came crushing upon the ship and
everything seemed to darken.
Feverish cold of sea water literally poke my flesh up to my bones. It was an intense
pain. As I regained my consciousness, I was aware of the situation. The ship was in total
wreck. Luckily for me, I supported myself with large debris and allowed the waves to
haul me. To my horror, I was alone. Streaks of light awaken me and as I regained
consciousness, I grabbed something hard. It was sand. At last, my misery had ended as I

had landed on a hard ground. A little exploration did not bring any hope. There was no
one on the island. So, I started to build a simple settlement for my survival on the island. I
set up fire as night began to unfold. I laid myself onto the bed made out of leaves. I could
not help but to wonder and reminiscing the way l had lived my life before on how each
choice in life would make a different me.
Out of the blue, an abrupt loud siren was heard from afar. A dim light was seen.
Swiftly, I arose from my bed and went nearer to the beach. I shouted for my life. Then,
that dim light grew brighter and brighter and the siren became louder and louder. Tears of
joy started to drop from my eyes. I felt like I was given a second chance to live. By that
moment, I knew that it was the time for me to go home.

Lost
My mind went blank. The only thing I could remember was that we had spent our
night in the jungle. It was supposed to be a simple two-day camping trip. Never in our

wildest dreams did we imagine that this most joyous adventure would turn out to be a
nightmarish affair.
It was a mundane and lacklustre mood after the school final examination and we
had had enough of studying and reading books, so we all set on going camping. After
getting the green light from our parents, we equipped ourselves with the necessary
camping gear and enough food to last us for the two days. We embarked on our journey
to Mount Tahan.
On the ascent, a steep mountain slopes sapped us of our energy. Just before dusk,
we reached an opulent picturesque waterfall and decided to camp there for the night.
After nightfall, we sat around a campfire and whiled away our time luxuriating the
sparkling stars on the sky. The background view of the sky was splendid. It was truly a
Gods magnum opus. We had such a spectacular night of joy as each and everyone had
the opportunity to tell our own version of scary tale. Adi, the live-wire of the group,
entertained us with a wide repertoire of songs ranging from classic oldies to the latest
hits. We were over the moon. Since it was a feverish cold night, we snuggled close to
each other and soon slipped into deep slumber. It was a calming plight.
The next morning, we went deeper into the jungle and made our way up some steep
terrains. After more than three hours, we decided to return to the camp site to fill up our
growling stomachs. We tried retracing our footsteps but ended up in circles. In the fading
hours of daylight, we tried to grope our way back. Hours of fumbling and stumbling in
the dark drained out our energy. Soon, we gave up and knew that we were already lost!
We were at our wits end and had no choice but to bivouac our second night near a
river. An eerie silence besieged upon us. Fear was written on all of our faces. I could not
help but wish that I were in the comforts of my bed because all of the camping needs
were left behind. For me, I knew that it was just a forlorn hope. But there we were, in
some inconspicuous corner of a dense equatorial forest, only accompanied by bizarre
insects and wild animals. Hours dragged past. The cacophonous sounds made by the
nocturnal creatures only intensified our misery.
The first streak of daylight brought us a fresh glimmer of hope. With renewed
psyche and fervour, we continued to try and find our way back by following the course of
the river. After about an hour of impaired boldness following course of the river, luck was
besieged upon us. There was a group of campers who were about to leave their camp site.
We told them on what had happened.
Cheer up boys! Now its the time to go home. Said one of them who later invited
us to join the group.

A few hours later we finally reached the foot of Mount Tahan. There, we dashed to
the bus stop and made a beeline for home.
