NARRATIVE REPORT

One of the objectives of higher academic institutions is to prepare their


students to the real world of the future industry wherethe latter are directly
involved. Educational or field exposure is an essential part of any collegiate course,
especially those courses which are intimately related to hotel and tourism industry.
As part of the curricular program, the Laguna State Polytechnic UniversityCollege of Hospitality Management and Tourism conduct educational tours and field
exposure to its 1st year students under the Bachelor of Science in Tourism.
For this academic year, the tour was held at Subic Bay, Pampanga.
ACTIVITIES
Day 1:
I was assigned in Bus No. 2 together with my co-faculties Mr. Elmo Maagad
and Mr. John Michael Aquino. The departure time for the tour was 3:00 am in the
morning. However, due to some tardy students we left for Subic at 4:00 am.
Upon departure, we started the trip with an opening prayer and followed by
the discussion by our tour guide of the different measures and policies to be
observed by the students ensure their safety during the duration of the trip.
Subsequently, the tour guide proceeded to his lecture on historical facts of the
different landmarks along the way.
At around 5:30 am we arrived at the South Luzon Expressway to have our
breakfast, meals were distributed to the students by the faculty assigned and the
tour guide. After the breakfast we continued the tour to Subic Bay, Pampanga, and
at around 9:30 in the morning we arrived in our First destination, the Ocean
Adventure. At ocean adventure, the studentslisten to an informative discussion on
Forest Survival Techniques at the Eco Theatre, the same was followed by close
encounter with protected animals in their sanctuaries, and most are water
animals.Afterwards lunch was served. Right after a short break, we accompanied
the students at the Seaside Stadium to witness the Dolphin Show and the Sea Lion.
The show started approximately around 1:30 in the afternoon.
After the activity at OCEAN ADVENTURE we immediately proceeded to the
MANSION GARDEN HOTEL for the check-in. Room assignments were given to the
students, and were accompanied by faculty members in their respective rooms.

Students were given leisure time to rest and to prepare for the seminar scheduled
at 6:00 pm. Before the dinner was served the students and the faculty members
attended a Seminar on Principles of Tourism. After the seminar the students were
given free time to swim and do some of their leisure activities inside the hotel while
being under the supervision of the faculty members. At ten oclock in the evening,
the students were instructed to proceed to their rooms and rest while the rest of the
faculty conducted room visitation. Constant monitoring was conducted to make sure
the students are all inside their respective rooms.

Day 2:
For the day two, the wake-up call was around 6:00 in the morning. At the
same time the students were assisted by the faculty members to have their
breakfast up to seven in the morning. Then, from 7:00 to 7:00 the students packed
their things and were instructed to checked-out from the hotel. Thereafter, we
arrived at ZOOBIC Safari. The same at the OCEAN ADVENTURE the group had a
close encounter with animals in the wildlife, and different species of crocodile,
spider, snakes, turtle, and many more.
At 12:00 noon proceeded at the Harbor Point Plaza for lunch at MangInasal
and souvenir shopping, then to Duty Free for pasalubong shopping. The shopping
spree lasted up-to 6:30 pm. From that point the group continued their trip going to
BABARIOTIC for the buffet dinner. Exactly 8:00 in the evening all the students
assembled for departure and at around 12:00 pm we arrived at the LSPU Main Gate.
The faculty, upon arrival, assisted the students and accompanied some of them who
waited for their parents who will take them home from the school

PAMPANGA PRE-PRACTICUM AND BAGUIO TOUR


In preparation for the On-the-job training, the second year students of the
Laguna State Polytechnic University- College of Hospitality Management and
Tourismdesigned a pre-practicum program to expose the students and let them
experience the work environment as preparation deployment for their on-the-job
training. Also as part of their subject Domestic Tourism, students will also visit
Baguio City.
For this batch of 2nd year Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management
(DHRM) students, they will be required to experience to work on the different
divisions of the hotel service such as: Kitchen; Housekeeping; and Food and
Beverage section.
With the present number of the 2 nd year students who joined the said prepracticum activity under the Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management, which
approximately around 190, they were group into three, where they will be working
in different shifting work schedules.

Day 1:
I was assigned in Bus No. 2 with Ms. Pamela Dedala. Bus no. 2 consist of
DHRM 2D and some DHRM 2F. From LSPU-Main Gate we proceeded for departure at
4:30 in the morning. The tour guide led the opening prayer to ask God for our safe
trip to Pampanga and Baguio.Thereafter, the faculty assigned assisted the tour
guide in discussing the different rules and precautionary measures to be observed
by all of the participants to ensure everybodys safety during the tour and other
related activities.
Upon arrival at the South Luzon Expressway at around 6:00 am breakfast was
served to the students by the tour guide and the faculty. The stop-over lasted for 15
minutes. The trip proceeded immediately, and while we were on the trip the tour
guide provided some essential historical facts to the students. It was a fun
discussion since the tour guide gave several prices to students who actively
participated in the said defreezing activity.
We had the second stop-over at the North Luzon Expressway. There, the
students were given fifteen minutes to leisure time. From the second stop-over to

Pampanga, the tour guide continued his discussion of important historical


information about the places we were about to visit during the tour.
Upon arrival at the Stotsenberg Hotel in Pampanga, the students were
welcomed by the key personnel of the Travel Agency and by the Management of the
Hotel, and then the program immediately proceeded to Cost Control seminar proper.
After almost an hour of the seminar/lecture, lunch was served to the
students. But while the students were having their lunch, the faculty assisted the
hotel and the travel agency personnel in monitoring all the students. Thereafter, the
students prepared themselves for the mock-up interview. At around 2:00 in the
afternoon, after the mock-up interview, the students were all send to their rooms
and were given thirty minutes to prepare for their respective work-assignments.
This signaled the start of their pre-practicum exercises.
At around 6:00 pm, students assembled at the Stotsenberg Function Hall for
their dinner. The students assigned in Food and Beverage Division served the dinner
prepared by other group of students assigned in the kitchen section. Then, around
7:30 in the evening, the students were given leisure time which lasted up to 10:00
pm. The faculty monitored the students inside the hotel while doing their leisure
activities. Some faculty members were also assigned to monitor the front desk to
check whether there were students who will roam outside the hotel at night. The
faculty likewise conducted room ocular visits from 11 pm to 2 am in the morning.
Day 2:
The students continued on the second day of their pre-practicum activity. The
3 groups worked on the different assigned divisions. The faculty, as early as 5 am in
the morning, roam around the different rooms to remind the students of their
assigned tasks. At 6:00 am breakfast was served by a different group of DHRM
students who were then assigned under the Food and Beverage Division.
The College Dean, Maam Leslie T. Salazar, convened the faculty to remind us
of our duties and responsibilities during the duration of the tour. The faculty
members were grouped to check on the work progress of the students.
The pre-practicum activity continued up to 5:00 in the afternoon. Thereafter,
students prepared for their graduation activity. The graduation ceremony started
around 7:30 in the evening. All the faculties were present and assisted the Dean
and the personnel of the travel agency for an organized graduation activity.
Likewise, during the graduation ceremony, several awards were given to students
who excelled in their respective tasks.
After the graduation ceremony, the students were given free time to 10:30 to
do their leisure activities in the hotel and availing other amenities. During the said
period, a student accidentally fell in the swimming pool, causing minor injuries to

the latter. Mr. Jerome Fernandez and Ms. AefreSuerte assisted the student in the
Hotel Clinic give the appropriate first aid to the students injury. To ensure proper
medication and other injuries were present caused by the said accident, Mr. John
Arzobal and other personnel of the travel agency brought the student in the nearest
hospital. Meanwhile, around 11:00 pm, the faculty proceeded to their usual routine
in checking the students in their respective rooms, and to ensure that no one had
left the premises of the hotel. The constant checking of the students lasted up-to
2:00 in the morning, after ensuring that all is in order.
Day 3:
Day 3 of the pre-practicum activity started at 6:00 in the morning. Students
were called for breakfast. Thereafter, at around seven oclock, the students packed
their thing and checked out from the Hotel.
At approximately 8:30 the trip to Baguio City commenced. Still I was assigned
in Bus No. 2 together with Ms. Pamela Dedala, my co-faculty, and the same set of
students. Upon departure, the tour guide led the prayer for our safe journey, and
after which continued his discussion of important historical facts along the way. The
tour guide also reminded the students of the things to be observed while in Baguio
City.
Around 12:00, we reached Baguio City, and the group immediately proceeded
to the Hotel Supreme. The lunch was served in the hotel. Students were instructed
that the check shall be at 5:00 pm after the City Tour. At 1:00 pm, we started the
city tour.
The first itinerary was in the Botanical Garden. Students were given
opportunity to visit one of the enchanting places of Baguio. Botanical Garden has its
majestic appeal in its environment themed surroundings. There also miniature of
some well-known places, large statues of Igorots and Ifugaos depicting their culture,
and stalls like souvenir shops.
After visiting the Botanical Garden, we proceed to our 2 nd itinerary at the
THE MANSION the official residence of the Philippine President in Baguio City.
Students from Bus No. 2 only stayed there for 15-20 minutes and immediately
returned to our bus. The students were satisfied easily after taking several photos.
We left the Mansion at around 3:00pm and proceeded to mines view. We
stayed there for up-to almost two-hours. Upon arrival at the Hotel Supreme, the
students secured their things for check-in at the hotel and proceeded to their
rooms. Dinner was served at around 6:30 pm. After dinner the students was given
free time for their leisure activities up-to 10 in the evening. The faculty members
conducted their usual room visitations and checking of the students.
Day 4:

For the last day of the tour, at 6:00 am students were called for breakfast. At
around seven the tour buses came to fetch the students going to Strawberry farm. It
was unfortunate, however, that our visit was still during the planting season of
strawberries. So most of the students with the faculty members just simply
observed the process in planting strawberries and visiting souvenirs shops in the
area. From the strawberry farm, we returned to the Hotel to pack our things and to
have our lunch. At exactly 1:00, the group checked-out from the hotel and
proceeded to Burnham Park. At the park, students were given two hours to enjoy its
beauty and other exciting and enjoyable leisure activities available. Then, at 3 in the
afternoon, we left Baguio going back to LSPU. The dinner was served at Pampanga.
And at around 12:30 am, we arrived at the LSPU Main Gate.

PALAWAN TOUR
Last October 15-17, 3rd year BSHRM students together with 2nd year and 3rd
year BS Tourism students have their tour for Palawan, as part of their subject
Domestic Tourism and Eco tourism Conservation. Palawan is an excellent choice for
the actual appreciation of the subjects above. The current socio-economic status of
the Palawan, the students realized that tourism in relation to economic development
is possible without necessarily impairing environment.
Day 1:
Our trip to Palawan commenced last September 15, 2015. Assembly area was
at LSPU- Sta. Cruz Main Gate. As instructed, students must be at the assembly point
at 2:30 in the morning. For departure, the students were grouped into two batches. I
was part of the first group under Bus No. 2, together with my co-faculty Maam
Charmine Rivera.
We left LSPU going to the airport at 3:00 in the morning. This is to catch on
our flight to Palawan scheduled at 8:00 in the morning. Upon departure, the tour
guide led the prayer for our safe journey, and thereafter we discussed to the
students the different rules and guidelines to be observed while inside the airport
and during the duration of the tour.
At 5:30 in the morning, we arrived at the airport. After almost an hour going
to usual check-in procedures we were able to proceed on our flight at exactly 8:00
in the morning. Second batch departed from Manila to Palawan on 10:00 in the
morning. As per schedule, the two groups shall meet at Leslies Restaurant for

lunch. From Manila, we arrived at Puerto Prinssesa Airport around ten in the
morning. We were welcomed by the tour guides at the airport. To make trip lighter
and less of hassle, the tour guides managed our luggage and other belongings to
our respective Hotels.
In compliance with the local ordinance of the Puerto Princessa we used vans
as our means of transportation. From the airport we proceed to our first itinerary, he
Crocodile Farm. The farm is designed as a sanctuary for crocodiles and other
wildlife animals. Students were given opportunity to take pictures and listen to
some information about the animals inside the Crocodile Farm.
After the crocodile farm we continued our trip to Iwahig Penal Colony. Our
tour guide discussed the origin and purpose of the Penal Colony. At the colony we
bought souvenirs personally made by the prisoners.
From the Penal Colony we proceeded to Leslies Restaurant for our lunch.
There the second batch arrived, and lunch was served. Then after an hour having
our lunch, the group assembled and continued the trip. We passed the Baywalk, and
from there to the Cathedral. Our group also got an opportunity to take picture in one
of the prestigious school in Palawan, the Palawan State University. According to our
tour guide, it is only the university in the Philippines that offers a degree in
Petroleum Engineering. Thereafter, we proceeded to our hotel.
Due to the huge number of participating students, our group checked-in at
Asturias Hotel while the other group is in Microtel. We arrived at Asturias at around
4:30. The students were given free time to rest and do their leisure activities. At the
hotel, I was with Mr. Jerome Fernandez, and KuyaEjo to supervise the students.
Exactly 6:00 pm, we went to Baker Hills to have our dinner. The dinner was
followed by a seminar on the Ecotourism of Palawan. The Speaker discussed the
essence of environmental protection and conservation in tourism industry. At around
9:00, we were fetched by going to our hotel. At 11:00 all students were advised to
go to sleep. While me, together with Sir Fernandez and our tour Guide stayed up-to
1:30 in the morning to constantly check the students.
Day 2:
For Day 2 we had our buffet breakfast at the Asturias Hotel at six in the
morning, the students were given only 1 hour to prepare. Our next destination is the
Underground River. After almost two and half hours our trip, we finally reached the
port. From that point we ride a boat going to the Underground River. Each faculty
was assigned to 8 students who theyd supervised. After the visit in the
underground river, which lasted for more or less 30 minutes, we proceeded to Green
Verde where we had our buffet lunch. The students had their picture taking on the
beautiful sceneries at the seashore near Green Verde.

After 15 minutes trip from Green Verde, we went to Ugong Rock Adventures.
Together with other students, we tried the 20-second Zip line. We headed to
Pasalubong Center. There, we had an opportunity to buy affordable and high
quality pasalubong.We shopped for almost 2 hours. Afterwards, we returned to the
hotel at around 5:30 pm. We instructed the students to prepare for dinner.It was
served at the Microtel.It was a Hawaiian themed dinner. During the dinner we
witnessed a fire dancing performance. After dinner, we proceed immediately to the
Hotel to rest and prepare for check-out the next morning. Sir Fernandez and I
conducted their usual students checking and room visitations. We stayed up-to 2:00
am in the morning to make sure that all students were asleep.
Day 3:
For the third day, as early as 6:00 am we instructed the students to have
their breakfast at the hotel buffet area. However, reports came to us that some
students from Microtel suffered stomach ache. Maam Bernadette Pasion came to
our hotel to check whether there are students suffering the same health condition.
We found out there were 3 students who suffered the same. We immediately
proceeded to the nearest hospital. There we met Maam AefreSuerte together with
ailing students. Sir Jerome Fernandez later on let himself checked by the attending
doctor. Dean Leslie Salazar also arrived in the Hospital with other students with the
same medical condition. Shortly thereafter, when I felt that Im not in good shape, I
asked the doctor for proper medication I needed.
At around 10:30 am, we headed to the Microtel together with students that
had been hospitalized due to stomach. Most of them, after their recovery, catch-up
with other students at Honda Bay Island Hopping. It was almost 1:30 in the
afternoon when the students from island hopping arrived at Microtel for check-out.
Since I am part of the first batch, we, together with the students scheduled
for 4 oclock flight, immediately proceeded to the airport.Upon arrival at the airport
we undergo usual check-in procedure. At exactly for thirty, our plane flew back to
Manila. From NAIA we had a stop-over at Sta. Rosa for dinner and directly. We
arrived at LSPU at approximately around 12:30 am.
