Thenewformsofdatamustnowbeusednotonlyforanalytics,butalsowithintransactions.The
associatedgrowthofHTAPisevidentfromoursurveyresults:50%ofthesurveyrespondentsidentified
HTAPasausecase,while20%identifieditastheprimaryusecase.
Consistencyrequirementsarealsoshiftingevenfortransactionalusecases,only69%ofrespondents
identifiedACIDrequirementsasapplicable,with16%optingfortunableconsistencyand14%for
eventualconsistency.Forthedistributedvariabledatausecase,onethirdoftherespondentsconsidered
automaticdatadistributionarequirement,as"selfadministered"shardinganddistributionstrategies
begintobeseenasonerousandfragile.Almostonethird(31%)ofthoserespondentsalsorequireonline

marketithasalsobecomeavectorforthemarketvisionoflargeestablishedplayers,separatingthemin
termsoftheirrecognitionoftheimpactthatcloudbasedandhybriddeploymentwillhaveoncustomers,

Clientsoftenexpectthatdoingbusinesswithnewvendorscanbechallengingbecauseofthesevendors'
relativeimmaturity.SometimesthatistrueHortonworks,forexample,receivedthelowestsurvey
ratingforcustomers'experienceofdoingbusinesswithit.Butmaturityisnoguaranteeofsmoothnessin
thisregardaverymaturemegavendor,SAP,receivedthesecondlowestscore.Infact,threeofthetop
fourvendorsbyrevenue(IBM,OracleandSAP)fellbelowthemedianonthisquestion.Newervendors,

Changestopricingandlicensingarealsohavingamajorimpactonthismarket,partlyduetotheriseof
opensourceDBMSs.SuchsoftwareiskeytoseveralofthevendorsdiscussedinthisMagicQuadrant,
eitherbecauseitformsthebasisoftheirbusinessmodel,orbecauseitiscausingatransformationintheir
