This will mark Southlake’s biggest community event and involves hundreds of teams of 8-15 walkers.
Team members will have at least one representative on the track at all times and it will be an overnight
event. Individuals commit to raising at least $100 for their team by fundraising efforts and donations
from family and friends. Teams can be composed of students, friends, organizations, church groups,
etc.
The event extends the district’s focus on the Rachel’s Challenge program. This program was
implemented by the Carroll school district last year and encourages participants to commit to acts of
kindness. The program is based on the journal writings of Rachel Scott, a teenager who died in the
Columbine High School tragedy of 1999.
As part of the event, Dana Scott, the sister of Rachel Scott, will be the guest speaker and kick off the
activities.
Relay For Life of Southlake event chair is Tracey Flores and Kristie Millican is team chair. For more
information, please call Society staff partner, Brenda Ratcliff, at 214-819-1207, or Tracey Flores at
817-949-5620.
Also, Relay For Life is also looking for all cancer survivors in the community. The organizers of the
event would like to honor each survivor. If you are a cancer survivor or have a relative, neighbor or
friend that is a survivor please contact Paige Buck at buckp@cisdmail.com.
