AN INSPECTOR CALL SCRIPT

Act One
The Birling family (Arthur, Sybil, Sheila and Eric) and Gerald Croft, are having a meal to
celebrate the engagement of Sheila and Gerald.
Arthur Birling makes a toast. In it, he informs the younger members of the family that their
future looks bright and that it is important to look after themselves. Priestley makes use of

dramatic irony to undermine Arthur Birling Birling says there wont be a war and talks about
the success of the Titanic.
Just as Mr. Birling says, a man has to mind his own business and look after himself and his
own, the doorbell rings. Shortly after, the maid shows Inspector Goole into the room.
The Inspector explains that a young woman has died after drinking bleach. He questions Mr.
Birling, who admits to having her sacked after she was involved in a strike at the factory. The
Inspector then questions Sheila, who admits to having the girl sacked from Milwards because she
was jealous that the girl looked better in the dress she liked than she did.

Act Two
The Inspectors attention falls on Gerald. When questioned, he admits that he knew the girl.
After meeting her at the Palace Music Hall in Brumley, Gerald set her up in the flat of a friend
and they became lovers. After a happy period, it came to an end and Eva / Daisy left Brumley and
went to the seaside. After the questioning, Gerald goes for a walk.
The Inspector questions Mrs. Birling next. She admits that the girl came to her charitable
organisation and asked for help, as she was pregnant and could not ask the father for money. Mrs.
Birling believes the girl is putting on graces and is offended that she uses the name Mrs.
Birling. She therefore persuades the other members of the charity to refuse her request. Mrs.
Birling is defiant and refuses to accept she did anything wrong. She tells the Inspector that the
father of the child is to blame and it is the Inspectors duty to arrest him.
Instead of leaving as Mrs. Birling hoped, the Inspector waits to do his duty.

Act Three
Quickly convinced by Geralds arguments, Mr. and Mrs. Birling decide that it was a joke and
laugh the whole thing off. They have not really learnt anything.
Eric and Sheila are not so easily swayed. They argue with their parents that this doesnt change
anything they are still responsible for the terrible things they did.
The telephone rings it is for Mr. Birling. A young woman has just died at the infirmary and a
police inspector is on his way to the house.
The play ends on this bombshell.

1 (b)
From the start when i decide to make this drama i had to consider many thing before i
choose this An Inspector Call drama. As a drama production leader I must conduct open drama
presentation and must make sure that all the actor and actress understand their role. Actors must
be made aware of the conditions of those guidelines and follow the script that had been prepared.
As the director I am also responsible for the successful of my drama and the safety of the people
participating in my drama and the audience. I have to make sure that all the audience enjoy the
drama performance. Besides, i also must aware that all staff that have been given thier job doing
their job and must remind them to minimize error. For example the the stage manager and
technical director. Both are the important aspect for my drama to going smoothly. That is why i
have to make sure doing thier job very well. Finally, as the leader I am responsible for giving my
production staff and cast the materials and information that is necessary for successful
completion of their jobs and for giving them this information in a timely and clear explanation.
During the staging play i have to make sure that our lighting staff doing their job very
well. Because if they making a small mistake it will confiusing our audience about our
performance. I have to make sure that lighting equipment work very well and yes during the
staging play all the equiepment work very well. The lighting staff doing thier job very well.
Ligthing works very well according to the plan. Our planning by playing with the during the
night and day time works. The audience understand what we are doing. In Inspector Call drama,
different door knocks were used for each scene that we need to use the sound of knocing door and
the sound of the door opening. Before we start to choose a sound we discuss about how could we
show to the audience about what we try to do and to make sure the audience understand about the
5

scene. When working on the sound effect i have used sound effect that will make sure that the
audience understand about the scenes. For example during at the beach, i have to make sure that
the sound effect will make audience understand that the scene is at the beach. I try to incorporate
the sound effects to enhance dramatic meaning of the drama and the scene. During the staging
play the audience clapping their hand because i they understand that the scene that they are
watching is at the beach. That's mean that the sound effect that i used is successful to make the
audience understand.
For the character they should have their own distinct personality, age, appearance, beliefs,
socio economic background, and language. Each character have to carry their role accurately and
based on the script given. It will make sure that the audience easy to recognize what character are
they. The word choices made by the playwright and the pronunciation of the actors of the
language must be aware. Language and dialog delivered by the characters moves the plot and
action along, provides exposition, defines the distinct characters. I give freedom for each actors.
They can create their own specific style in relationship to language choices they use in
establishing character and dialogue, as long as the audience can understand what they are talking
about. During the staging play all actors pronounce the word correctly and clearly. Thanks to
them because they work really hard to make sure the word that they used is easy for the audience
to understand. In addition i have to consider the point of attack. The point attack is the main
action by which all others will arise. It is the point at which the main complication is introduced.
Point of attack can sometimes work hand in hand with a plays inciting incident, which is the first
incident leading to the rising action of the play. For this An inspector Call drama, the point attact
is when Edna the Birling's servant exposed what is actually happen. It make the audience curious
to know what is actually happen.
As a conclusion, many consideration in playwriting requires detail selection and
arrangement.

To produce good quality drama it requires experience, study, and clear

observations. Scrip writer must consciously set about making choices with a competent plan and
creative imagination. Only then than we consider the script work as a starting point to the drama
process. Before anyone begins to write a play it is important to understand the medium for which
you intend on writing. We must know who is our audience, will they understand what we are
trying to do and what is the best way to make sure the audience understand about our
performances. For the actors, they can used thier face, thier body and their voice to potray the
character. It will help to create an interesting scene for the audience if the actors know hw to use
those element in their acting. Then, technical element also important for the director and the
leader of the drama to consider. For the light, the placement, intensity, and color of lights will
help communicate environment, mood, or feeling with the audience. For the sound we have to
make sure that we choose the correct sound effect. It will effects an audience
