Auto-exposure
Position "A"
When you set the F/stop r ing to the "A" position,
the camera ex poses automatically. 1n this case, the
F/ stop number is also indicated by the poin ter in
the viewfi nder wh en t he shutter relea.se b utto n is
slightly depressed.

The characteristics of
will be fully appreciated in auto-exposu re p hotography. When you
set the F/stop ring to the mark A, a proper lens
aperture is automaticall y combined with your
predetermi ned shutter speed for correct exposure.
In auto matic exposure the sh u tter speed must be
predetermined, depending on shooting cond itions,
and this shutter speed will automaticall y contro l
t he F/stop for proper exposure. (See page 17.)

2) Focusing
To focus, use the bright rectangu lar sect ion at the
cen ter of the viewfi nder.
Looki ng t h rough the viewfinder, move the helical
focus ring on th e lens barrel, u ntil the double
images within the smal l rectangle coincid e and
become clearly visi ble. N ow the subject is in focus.
The distance scale on the lens barrel is ind icat ed in
meters (white co lor) and in feet (orange color). A
reading in feet or meters aligned with t he cen ter
index red l ine represents the distance to the
2 3 subject.
DEPTH OF FIELD
lf the focus is set at a certain distance, objects at
that d istance are most clearly photographed.
At the sa m e ti me, an area ahead and beh ind th is
distance is also in focus. T his area is call ed the
"depth of field". T he larger the F /stop number is,
the greater the depth o f f ield.
For example, assume you are shooting a su bject 3
meters (10 ft.) away at F/stop 16. From the chart
you can see your dep th o f fie ld w ill be 1.47 m (4.85
ft.) to in fi nity. In automatic ex posu re you can read
off t he F/number from the scale in the viewfinder,
