Abstract
HFSSisahighperformancefullwaveelectromagnetic(EM)field
simulatorforarbitrary3Dvolumetricpassivedevicemodeling.It
employstheFiniteElementMethod(FEM),adaptivemeshing,
andbrilliantgraphics.ThispaperreportsforMagicTeethata
signalincidentonthedifferenceportsplitsequallybetween
ports2and3,buttheresultingsignalsare180degreesout
ofphase.Also,RingHybridjunctionisafourportnetworkwith
a180degreephaseshiftbetweentwooutputportsbutitcan
alsobeoperatedsothatoutputportsareinphase.Boththe
structuresarefirstdesignedusingHFSSandthensimulated.

I.Introduction
AnsoftHFSSisthetoolofchoiceforhighproductivityresearch.
ItusesFiniteElementMethodwhichinvolvessubdividing
alargeproblemintoindividuallysimpleconstituentunits
whichareeachsolubleviadirectanalyticalmethods,then
reassemblingthesolutionfortheentireproblemspaceasa
matrixofsimultaneousequationsasahowninFig.1.

B.Principleofoperation

1.Amagicteeisafourport,180degreehybridsplitter,realized
inwaveguideasshowninFig.Likeallofthecouplerandsplitter
structures,themagicteecanbeusedasapowercombiner,or
adivider.Itisideallylossless,sothatallpowerintooneport
canbeassumedtoexittheremainingports.Port1isthe(sum)
port,andissometimescalledthe
