Quran for Young Adults

Day 5
Summary
Surah Fatiha: The Qurans Essence

All Praise and Thanks are for Allah, Master of all the Nations.
We werent commanded to give thanks and praise Allah. We do it naturally, because
peoples natural state of being is one of gratitude and appreciation of beauty and good
things
Its obnoxious to be ungrateful for the gifts weve been givenlike a father who gets his
kid an Eid present and the kid says Thats it? Thats all? This kind of reaction warrants
the fathers anger, and he can take away the gift he gave his child.
Know that we are slaves. We are just property, and Allah is our master. This means we
are entitled to nothing. Everything we have is a gift.

The Extremely Loving and Caring, The Constantly Loving and Caring
Both words come from the word which is often translated as Mercy.
We should think of Allah in light of the hadith in which he says, I named you (the
mothers womb) by my name.( )No human relationship compares to the love
Allah has for us, but the closest one we could understand is the relationship a mother
has with her baby in her womb because the baby is constantly cared for in ways the
baby doesnt even know, and the baby is completely enveloped in the care of the
mothers womb in the form of shelter and nutrition.
: extreme love and care (not forever)
: love and care (forever for The Believers)

Master of the Day of Judgment

We have to remember we will have to give account for all the gifts that we were blessed
with, as well as tests we underwent
To be God, Allah must be perfect in all ways. In his love, mercy, justice, etc. The word
embodies this perfection.
1. How can someone Perfectly Fair make something unfair (like this life?)
We have to remember that there are two parts to the equation of life: this
life and the next. This life is unfair, and the next life is when Allah enacts
ultimate justice. Only He can fairly compensate you for your good and bad
deeds.
If you dont believe in the Day of Judgment, all you have is an unfair world,
which would make Allah unfair because He created the world, which would
make Allah imperfect, which would mean he isnt God. This is why belief in
the Day of Judgment is integral to a complete understanding and belief in
Allah.

Only you we worship, and only you we ask for help

We know we owe you for all your blessings on us ()
We ask for Your help in trying to obey You ()

Guide us to the Straight Path

Humans are inherently biased
1. Social Conflict: Men vs. Women are inherently biased towards their respective
genders. Ex. A divorce case

2. Economic Conflict: Employee vs. Employer, people will be biased towards their
respective role
3. Political Conflict: People vs. Government, the struggle in appropriation of taxes
and freedoms
4. Internal Conflict: Body vs. Spirit, feeding the physical desires vs. feeding the
spiritual desires
5. Intellectual Conflict: Balance of Emotion and Reason in belief

The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked
[Your] anger or of those who are astray. (Sahih International)

: People you have a right to be upset at because they know something is

wrong yet they choose to do it any way
: People who had no idea something was wrong and they did it
Allah chose not to say the Jews and Christians as opposed to
because he is highlighting the behavior, not the people. Were supposed to improve
ourselves, not judge others. This ayah isnt about them, its using them as an example.
Its about us. Otherwise we wouldnt be saying dont let me be from among them.
