The INDIAN POLICE SERVICE is one of the three All India Services of the Government of India. It has
supplanted the Indian (Imperial) Police in 1948, a year after India picked up autonomy from Britain.
Objective
The first police commission is appointed on 17 august 1865 with contained detailed guidelines.
IPS DUTY is to interact and coordinate with the members of all India services.
History
Before the independence, senior police officer belongs to (imperial) police were appointed by the
Secretary of state by competitive examination. The first competitive examination was held in England
on June 1893. Kiran bedi joined the IPS and become first woman IPS officer.
Details
The preparation of IPS officer enlisted people is directed at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police
Academy in Hyderabad. The approved framework quality of Indian Police Service is 4920. (3270 Direct
Recruitment Posts and 1650 Promotional Posts).The Civil List of IPS officers is a redesigned (yearly) list
kept up by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Selection
The Civil Services Examination has a three-phase focused choice procedure. At stage one, there is a
target sort examination called the preparatory exam. This is a qualifying examination. It comprises of a
General Studies paper and an inclination test. Just the competitors who pass this can show up for the
"Fundamental Examination" which comprises of nine papers. Every hopeful needs to qualify a 2 dialects
paper and four general studies papers select a discretionary subject (two paper). This is trailed by a
meeting.
