Agoodnontechnicalintroduction,withanicemixofmathematicalrigorandcomprehensiblephysics.

Areadableandusefulbook,toapoint.The1988edition,atleast,unfortunatelyhasatangledapproachto
itsLambdaindexnotationthatiswronginplaces.Schutzgoestogreatlengthstoconvincethereaderofthe
usefulnessofoneforms,butisclearlyunawarethateverythinghedoeswiththemcanbedoneinshorter
timeusingvectorsalone.BewaretheshowstoppingtyposintheRiemanncomponentsforthe
Schwarzschildmetriconpage315.ThediscussionaboutRiemanntensorsignsonpage171isalsowrong,
andwillgiveyouwrongresultsifyouapplyit.Indeed,thatdiscussionisindicativeofageneralnavetinthe
book'searlymathematicsasawhole.

Agoodbookthattakesasomewhatdifferentapproachtothesubject.

Forsomeonewhoactuallywantstolearntoworkproblems,idealforselfteaching,andmathisintroduced
asneeded,ratherthaninacolossalblast.

AmoreadvancedtextbookthanWald'searlierbook,appropriateforanintroductorygraduatecourseinGR.
Itstrikesjusttherightbalance,inmyopinion,betweenmathematicalrigorandphysicalintuition.Ithasgreat
mathematicsappendicesforthosewhocareaboutprovingtheoremscarefully,andagoodintroductionto
theproblemsbehindquantumgravity(althoughnottotheirsolutions).Ithinkit'sMUCHbetterthaneither
MTWorWeinberg.
7.CliffordWill:WasEinsteinRight?PuttingGeneralRelativitytotheTest
NontechnicalaccountoftheexperimentalsupportforGR,includingthe"classicthreetests",butgoingwell
beyondthem.
