Ship Unloaders Info
Bulk materials loaders and unloaders are used to fill and remove powders, granular
substances and other bulk solids from bags, bins, boxes, carts, drums, hoppers,
railcars, trucks, and silos. They often include solids feeders and break down clumps
or arches to allow for the more uniform distribution of bulk materials.

FLSmidth offers a range of Kovako standard unloader models. Not only the roadmobile unloader, but larger units are also now available as standard models.
Based on the experience of FLSmidth's Kovako brand, new standard models have
been developed that represent common combinations of capacities vs. ships sizes
and platforms (e.g. trailer, gantry and skid mounted units). As a result, FLSmidth
can now offer standard unloader models from road mobile units with a nominal
capacity of 170 tph for 5.000 DWT ships to gantry mounted unloaders of 450
tph nominal capacity for 40.000 DWT ships. This benefits the customers as
delivery times are reduced and the cost of engineering is spread over more units, so
that a customer does not have to pay for the complete engineering. Further, it
improves the quality of the documentation.
The product range is divided into four main groups (Size 1, Size 2, Size 3 and Size
4), for increasing ship sizes. The units are available in different versions. Depending
on the size, they can be delivered as road-mobile, road capable, dock mobile, gantry
mounted or skid mounted units. The road mobile units can be transported on public
roadways. The road capable model has to be disassembled partly before the
transport.
The dock mobile units are mounted on a trailer or mobile platform with rubber
wheels. These units are too big for transport over the road. They can be transported
within the port, for instance from the unloading position at the dock to a parking
spot (if the dock has to be cleared after the unloading has been completed). The
gantry mounted units, have bogie sets for traveling over rails. All sizes can be
delivered as skid mounted units, for fixed locations. Alternatively, the skid mounted
units can be mounted on a barge for unloading at different locations that can be
reached over water or to cope with large tidal differences. Where practical, the new
standard units use the same components, maximizing the advantages mentioned
above (e.g. reduced engineering time and cost, delivery time, documentation
quality).
Large Pneumatic Ship Unloaders - Pneumatic unloading: Total flexibility
FLSmidth's pneumatic ship unloader only requires a pipeline connection to handle
the entire conveying process from ship to store. This enables it to work in practically
any type of dock environment. The pipeline may run below, at or above ground
level. The unloader also functions with removable pipeline sections. The large
pneumatic unloader can reach the entire ships hold without repositioning. This
unique feature allows dock-mobile, barge-mounted and rail-mounted configurations,
all offering a very high average through-the-ship capacity. The easily maneuverable
vacuum suction arm combines high efficiency with superior environmental
characteristics.
unloading rate.
Dock-mobile unloaders: In cases where there are no rails available or the
unloader cannot be located permanently on the quay, a dock-mobile unloader is an
excellent solution. Dock-mobile unloaders are either self-propelled or pulled by a
front-end loader.
Barge-mounted unloaders: In cases where no suitable dock facilities are
available or the unloader is to be used at several terminals, a barge-mounted
pneumatic unloader is the ideal solution. Complete accessibility of the entire hold
without repositioning the barge and an easy rubber hose onshore connection are
significant advantages offered by this type of unloader.
