30 Days in 20 Photos
OBJECTIVES
STEP 1 | L E A R N
Students will look at the 30 Days in 20 Photos 7-Minute Starter Activity and clarify any questions about this
ongoing, term-long assignment.

STEP 2 | P R A C T I C E
Each student will submit at least 20 photos per month using the composition techniques outlined on the
assignment sheet.

STEP 3 | U S E
Students will upload photos to the appropriate folder(s) and use them on the pages of their publication.

In this assignment, students must think creatively to capture candid moments using well-known
photographic composition techniques. The gathering of photos leads to a collaborative process in which all
students have access to the photos for their layouts.

30 Days in 20 Photos
Your task for this assignment is simple. Take at least 20 unique photos that can be used in the yearbook each month. This is
an ongoing assignment that will require you to take a variety of photos in situations related to the high school experience.
Possible subjects are listed below, but there are hundreds more possibilities. Be creative!
Class activities
Sporting events
School spirit
Outside activities

Club meetings
Students at lunch
PE classes
Field Trips

You are encouraged to take more than your required 20 photos so that you can choose from the best photos to turn in.
Your photos will be distributed to the rest of the staff for use in the yearbook, so make sure you cover a variety of events!
Requirements: Use your understanding of photo composition to take your photos.
When you turn in your photos, include:
A subject that is framed on two sides
Or photo that includes leading lines
Or photo that includes repetition
A worms-eye view

A birds-eye view
An action shot
At least 10 photos using the Rule of Thirds

Bring your photos to class and upload to the correct folder.
