Written assessments must be submitted by the student, in person, as hard copy (i.e. not a memory stick, CD or email) unless
otherwise stated in this brief. Oral based assessments will be video recorded if stated in this brief
Assessments must be submitted by the Due Date; failure to do so may result in NIL being recorded as the mark
It is the students responsibility to retain a copy of their work in the event that the college requests an additional copy

Acts of plagiarism or malpractice may result in NIL being recorded as the mark and disciplinary action being taken by the college

Brief:
Each student is required to produce three assignments in the form of a:
1. Written Reports
2. An Essay
3. Learner Record
All three assignments must be printed off and presented in a lever arch file with each assignment separated
and clearly introduced.
A submission sheet must be printed off, completed and placed at the front the folder.
Assignment 1- Written Reports
The student will compile written reports on the following:

report on the accessibility and safety of a premises for the child with special needs

report on the care routines of a child with special needs in a particular setting

record and evaluation of an activity carried out with a child with a specific special need or disability

Marking Scheme: 10 marks per bulleted point above
Total Mark: 30 points
Wordcount: 1500 words maximum for each report
Assignment 2- Essay:
Students are required to compile a written essay on a child with a specific special need or disability
Student is required to select a topic that focuses on a specific special need or disability.
They need to produce evidence that demonstrates their ability to:

Investigate the topic concerned

Reference and research relevant sources of information

Give a detailed account of the day to day living of a child and the family with this specific need

Evaluate the services available for this child

Examine relevant legislation in relation to disability

Explore rights of children with disabilites

Marking Scheme: 5 marks for each bulleted point below

clear identification of form and causes of this specific special need

detailed description of the day to day living of a child with this specific need (to include
home and school life)

details of the rights of children with disabilities

examine relevant legislation in relation to disability

summary of the services available for the child with this special need

clear identification of research and background information used to support the project

Assignment 3-Learner Record:
Students required to compile a personal reflective diary
It will include reflection on:

Role, responsibilty, qualities & skills of the special needs assistant

relationships within the work setting with children, parents and all members of the childs
multidisciplinary team

the need for confidentiality within the work setting

the importance of good work practices

reflection on relating effectively and appropriately with children with specials needs

training in the area of special needs and the link between theory and practical work when
working with children with special needs
You must also record:

personal strengths and weaknesses within the work setting

personal effectiveness as a special needs assistant

strategies to overcome difficulties and areas of weakness when working with children with
special needs
A maximum of 5 marks is allotted to each of the bulleted points below:

Reflection on role, responsibility, qualities & skills of SNA

Importance of good work practices

detailed reflection on personal and working relationships within the work setting

clear explanation of the links between theoretical learning and practical work with children
