and a few information and articles are taken from the internet.
Although the study was carried out with extreme enthusiasm and careful planning there are
several limitations, which handicapped the research.
Time Constraints:
The time given for the project to be completed is less and thus there are chances that some
information might have been left out, however due care is taken to include all the relevant
information needed.
Sample size:
Due to time constraints the sample size was relatively small and would definitely have been
more representative if I had collected information from more respondents
Accuracy:
It is difficult to know if all the respondents gave accurate information; some respondents tend
to give misleading information
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
1.1 CONCEPT OF JOB SATISFACTION
The term job satisfaction has been conceptualized in many ways. Job satisfaction
focuses on all the feelings that an individual has about her job. It has been assumed by
organizational behaviour research that individuals who express high satisfaction in their jobs
are likely to be more productive, have higher involvement and are likely to resign less than
employees with less satisfaction.
Job satisfaction is simply how people feel about their jobs and different aspects of
their jobs. It is the extent to which people like (satisfaction) or dislike (dissatisfaction) their
jobs.
A bank is a financial institution which deals with deposits and advances and other
related services. It receives money from those who want to save in the form of deposits and it
lends money to those who need it. Finance is the life blood of trade, commerce and industry.
Now-a-days, banking sector acts as the backbone of modern business. Development of any
country mainly depends upon the banking system.
The Indian banking has finally worked up to the competitive dynamics of the new
Indian market and is addressing the relevant issues to take on the multifarious challenges of
globalization. Banks that employ IT solutions are perceived to be futuristic and proactive
players capable of meeting the multifarious requirements of the large customers base.
The Indian banking has come from a long way from being a sleepy business
institution to a highly proactive and dynamic entity. This transformation has been largely
brought about by the large dose of liberalization and economic reforms that allowed banks to
explore new business opportunities rather than generating revenues from conventional
streams (i.e. borrowing and lending).
1.2 What is a Bank?
A Bank is a financial organization which accepts deposits that can be withdrawn on
Demand and also lends money to individuals and business houses that need it.

What is RBI?
Bank,
State
Cooperative
RBI is India's central bank. The Reserve Bank of India was established on April 1,
1935 in accordance with the provisions of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934.
RBI acts as a banker to the Government and Banks.
The Central Bank maintains record of Government revenue and expenditure under
various heads. It maintains deposit accounts of all other banks and advances money to other
banks, when needed.
Another important function of the Central Bank is the issuance of currency notes,
regulating their circulation in the country by different methods.
What is Scheduled Bank?
All banks which are included in the Second Schedule to the Reserve Bank of India
Act, 1934 are scheduled banks.
These banks comprise Scheduled Commercial Banks and Scheduled Cooperative
Banks.
Almost all banks are Scheduled banks in India.
What are Commercial Banks?
Commercial banks may be defined as, any banking organization that deals with the
deposits and loans of business organizations
Commercial banks issue bank checks and drafts, as well as accept money on term
deposits. Commercial banks also act as moneylenders, by way of instalment loans and
overdrafts.
Commercial banks also allow for a variety of deposit accounts, such as checking,
savings, and time deposit.
developed, it was specific to job satisfaction in human service, non-profit and public
organizations (Fields, 2002, p.14).
percent also believe morale is poor where they work. Managers need to step in and mediate
conflicts before they escalate into more serious problems requiring disciplinary action.
Employees may need to be reminded what behaviours are considered inappropriate when
interacting with co-workers.
Financial Rewards
Job satisfaction is impacted by an employee's views about the fairness of the company
wage scale as well as the current compensation she/he may be receiving. Companies need to
have a mechanism in place to evaluate employee performance and provide salary increases to
top performers. Opportunities to earn special incentives, such as bonuses, extra paid time off
or vacations, also bring excitement and higher job satisfaction to the workplace.
Masud Ibn Rahman, Hemanta Bahadur Gurung and Sampa Saha in their
research paper Where the Job Satisfaction of Bank Employees Lies: An Analysis of the
Satisfaction Factors in Dhaka City (Bangladesh) and they have concluded that:
The overall satisfaction of bank employees in Dhaka City is associated with different
factors of job satisfaction. Among those, payment, healthy relationship with colleagues,
sense of personal accomplishment, adequate information available to do job, ability to
implement new ideas are the most important ones for improving the level of job satisfaction
of bank employees in Dhaka City. If these job satisfaction factors are improved or addressed
positively, there will be positive overall satisfaction on bank employees. The relationships
between various factors of job satisfaction with the overall satisfaction show that the more
efforts and creative ideas of employees are blocked and the more individuals talents are
unutilized; the less positive overall satisfaction of employees is there. Managers in these
enterprises may not be able to resist the increasing changes like online computerization and
other changes due to globalization and technological advancement and other related pressures
like privatization in this banking sector but they can do more to manage the changes by
reducing negative factors like blocking individuals efforts, talents and creative ideas and by
increasing remuneration and recognition, and by improving Safety factors, Social factors,
Physiological factors, Self-Actualization factors and Inquisitiveness factors.
analysis. Banks being the financial backbone of the country will be ruined only by such
meager percentage of less satisfied people. If less job satisfaction is not cared for then it
would automatically lead to job dissatisfaction and therefore it would lead to negligent
behaviour and turnover of employees.
N. Mallika and Dr. M. Ramesh in their research paper Job Satisfaction and
Contributing Variables among the Bank Employees in Cuddalore District (India) and
they have concluded that:
The majority of the employees perceived only low and medium job satisfaction. So
the organization must identify the factors, which lead to poor job satisfaction. And also take
action towards the job satisfaction. Because poor job satisfaction may result in less
productivity and it is injurious for the employees as well as for the organization. The
contributing variables also significantly contribute for the low perception of job satisfaction.
This study on job satisfaction among bank employees has brought to light the extent
to which the employees are satisfied with their job and their reaction towards factors related
to work and work-environment. Attempt has also been made to find the perception of
employees on the motivational factors. Some of the key areas where improvement was
needed were inferred from this study. An objectives analysis of the situation from the
organization side would certainly help in improving their situations, which in turn could
result in increased job satisfaction, better efficiency and higher productivity. It is observed
from the study on job satisfaction among bank employees in Cuddalore District, India.

Above table is the calculation of the all 3 banks i.e SBI, AXIS and
NAV-JEEVAN co-op Bank. The overall calculation show that the main
reason of the job dissatisfaction is the salary structure of the bank and the
second main reason for the job dissatisfaction is employee personal
problems.
So banking sector has to overcome these factors to improve job
satisfaction of the employees or it will lead to employee absenteeism or
employee turnover.
5.2-SURVEY INTERPRETATION Working Environment :Maximum employees is satisfied with the working environment this is because of the
status of the work or employee having higher status in the bank like manager or assistant
manager and the employee which gave neutral reaction may because they are newly
recruited in the bank they dont have worked in any other bank so they cant justify
themselves whether they like the environment or dont like, the employee with
dissatisfied with working environment they should be because of high workload.
Bank Location :This is because of the promotion and transfer structure of the bank. The maximum
employees of any bank is highly satisfied and satisfied with the bank location of the bank and
very few employees is dissatisfied with the bank location i.e 10% employees of nav jeevan
co-op bank.
Working Hours :The reason may be the bank working hours is very less as compare to the other corporate
work so the employees is highly satisfied and satisfied is because of less working hours. And
it also depend upon the workload of the employee.
Salary Structure :The main reason the employees are dissatisfied with the salary structure of their bank is
because of human nature that is every human is not satisfied what he has, human want more
and more every time. The employees with high satisfied or satisfied with the salary structure
because they may complete their targets or they may newly appointed in axis bank the
employees are young and below 30 age and the employees which are dissatisfied those may
be old employees. And salary structure of nav jeevan is not good according to the reaction of
the employees i.e 60% employees is not satisfied with salary structure that is because of the
regional level which limited to Ulhasnagar and thane only.
Work Responsibility :The maximum employees of bank is satisfied with the work responsibility bank knows
very well who is capable to do the work according to that bank will divide the work and give
it to the employees.
High Stress Level :The cause of the stress is may be because of the performance pressure or may be new
employees or may be the workload or work responsibility given to the employees like sale of
the financial plans or disbursement of loan or collection of the loan amount.
Superior-Subordinate Relationship :Success of the businesses is depend upon the communication between the employee and
employer and also the good relation between employee and employer so bank has good
relationship with their employees her more than 60% employee from each bank is satisfied
with the superior-subordinate relationship statement.
Participation In Bank Activities :To maintain peaceful environment and to maintain good relation between employees bank
conduct some activities which will make good relations between employees. Cleanliness
program and celebration of festivals. Maximum number Axis bank employees is satisfied
with the statement where 50% of sbi and nav jeevan bank say neutral about the statement.
Job Security :One more factor affecting job satisfaction is job security which means security of the job
in the bank in public(SBI) and private(AXIS) bank maximum number of employees is highly
satisfied and satisfied with the job security but in co-operative(Nav-jeevan co-op) bank the
10% employees are highly dissatisfied and dissatisfied. The job security means employees in
layoff from the job except at the time of retirement or termination.
Right to put your opinions in front of superior :Employees can put their opinions in front of the superior or they can participate in the
employee suggestion scheme. From the sound suggestion of the employee it may help in the
cost deduction. In this survey maximum number of employee can has right to put their
opinions in front of superiors.
Performance Appraisal policy :Maximum employees is satisfied with the performance appraisal policy. Performance
appraisal policy means evaluating the performance of the employees job in term of its
requirement. The performance appraisal policy is not carried out properly in cooperative bank
because they selected the neutral in the survey. This is because of the performance appraisal
should be carried out properly.
Recognition and Rewards :One of the important factor affecting the job satisfaction recognition and reward of their
work. Whether the employee is recognize in the organization and what reward he/she gets
when they do extra effort in their work. In axis bank employees gets commission to sell the
financial plans same in other bank also. The employee of sbi and axis bank is satisfied but in
nav jeevan coop bank the employee is dissatisfied and highly satisfied with the recognition
and rewards system.
Does employee personal problem affects work :Effects of personal problem depends upon the life cycle of the person. When the
employee is young he tries to achieve the dreams and when he became householder he has to
earn for his family, and expense will incurred, expenses like health insurance, life insurance,
etc. So in this survey the maximum employees say the personal problem doesnt affects the
work but some says the personal problem affects the work.
CHAPTER 6: SUGGESTIONS
SBI-the main reason for job dissatisfaction is the salary structure of bank and
employee personal problem of employee so the bank has to provide some fringe benefits or
non-monetary benefits or conduct some seminars on how to reduce stress or maintain the
personal life.
Axis bank-the main reason for job dissatisfaction Superior-Subordinate Relationship
and personal problems of employee the axis bank has to increase the communication between
the employer and employee and conduct the seminars or conferences, the relationship
between employee and employer can be increase by management games, employee
participation in decisions process.
Nav jeevan Co-op bank-the salary structure of bank, recognition & rewards and
employee personal problem so the bank has to provide some fringe benefits or non-monetary
benefits or conduct some seminars on how to reduce stress or maintain the personal life. And
Nav jeevan coop bank has to give importance to the employees work and their work is
rewarded and they also get recognize in the bank.
So the bank has to improve the salary structure, working environment and employee
assistance policy in order to increase job satisfaction of the employees.
CHAPTER 7: CONCLUSION
As we all know, a satisfied employee is an asset for the organisation. The whole prestige
of an organization is attached with the working of the employees in a manner that how they
make their customer delighted. Due to many innovations in a banking system, work culture is
totally changed and there are some problems due to which employees feel uncomfortable to
work electronically. Hence, there is a need to solve these problems with effective
implementation of some practical strategies to make banking system more popular and
friendly among the employees. In this study various variables have been considered to
determine the level of job satisfaction among bank employees.
However, on comparing the combined mean of the banks, it has been concluded that all
the private sector banks have scored above average when compared to the public sector banks
and co-operate banks. It showed that private sector banks are using various management
techniques aggressively to enhance their base. If the job satisfaction factors are improved or
addressed positively, there will be positive overall satisfaction among the bank employees.
The relationship between various factors of job satisfaction with the overall satisfaction
shows that the more efforts and creative ideas of employees are blocked and the more
individuals talents are unutilized; the less positive overall satisfaction of employees is there
in co-operate banks.
