COUGARS FINISH ON A HIGH,

HUNTERS STUMBLE INTO FINALS
---------------------------------------------Perth,WA | The Perth Cougars were all precision, balance
and execution as they ran up 31 points against a
disjointed and out of form Newcastle. The Hunters could
only manage 17 points in return and Quarterback Luke
Ogden had to leave the game with an ankle injury in the
fourth quarter, making a bad day worse.
"We have had a pretty good year when you think
about it" said John Simon. "It is disappointing we are
not playing finals footy but the signs are very
encouraging for next year" he said. The Cougars looked to
the power run with Anthony Creighton early in downs and
then bring on the likes of Jarrod Crawford who was
playing in the slot for the first time to keep him fresh.
That move worked a treat for the best receiver in the
League as he finished the day with 7 catches and 104
yards. "I will play anywhere" Crawford said. "If I can
help the team I am there. Playing the slot gave me the
opportunity to go inside and out and that was a breath of
fresh air".
The game was a real battle early on with the
Cougars scoring first after a long drive. Tight End
Neccrom Woods springing open for the 1 yard catch. This
was matched by Eric Decker getting back to his best form,
beating KeiVare Russell off the line and Ogden loobed the
bal into his chest in stride for a 68 yard score.
A mistake by Charlie Moore allowed Newcastle to
briefly take the lead but an Anthony Creighton touchdown
run and the a controversial fumble by Ogden was returned
75 yards by Hugh Aitken for another score. These two
touchdowns broke the game open and Perth would lead 21-01
at the half.
The Cougars again ground and pound the ball to
start the third and Keiran Geia added another field goal.
Newcastle were looking more and more ragged and Moore
took advantage by finding Ligi Ivan over the middle for
yet another touchdown and to seal the win. Newcastle did
respond with peter Paea scoring but it would be way too
little, to late.
