So to learn this system, let us have some fundamental. Our Body has 12 organs and these organs are
catagorised in 3 groups. The grouping starts with Lung. Let us see the groups:
Group 1:
Lung
Large Intestine
Stomach
Spleen
Group 2
Heart
Small intestine
Urinary bladder
Kidney
Group 3
Pericardium
Sanjiao or Triple warmer
Gall bladder
Liver
Why the groups are defined in this order.?
1st cycle starts from lung which is anatomically located at the top of the middle region. The cycle
starts with hand yin organ of the 1st group (lung) reaches the hand fingers then returns as pair yang
organ (LI) reaches the head and continues through next yang organ (stomach) reaches the leg fingers
and returns to chest through yin meridian (spleen) and completes the cycle. In the 1st group 2 yin
organs (lung and spleen) and 2 yang organs (LI and stomach) are covered.
2nd cycle starts from Heart ,the next organ below lung goes to SI, then UB and kidney and returns to
Heart. Similarly 3rd cycle starts from Pericardium , then TW, then GB ,then Liver and returns to PC.
The 3 energy cycles independently runs within the group Gr 1, Gr. 2 and Gr.3 but also flows from
Gr.1 to Gr.2 to Gr.3 and returns to Gr.1 covering all organs.
Our body is a connection between yin energy from mother earth and yang energy from father
heaven and both energies nurture our body. You can observe all yang channels starts from top and
always flow down. All yin channels starts from ground and flows up. This is natures law.
Now how this is important for TAN system let us explore in next lesson.
Hand Yang
Large intestine
Small intestine
Triple warmer
Leg yang
stomach
Urinary bladder
Gall bladder
Leg yin
spleen
kidney
Liver
When yin energy is balanced by yang energy, the health is in harmony. When yin is more, cold
diseases and when yang is more, hot diseases occur. The body is designed in such a way that if yin
channel runs on interior, the paired yang channel runs exactly opposite on the exterior side. If yin
channel runs on the medial side the paired yang channel runs on the lateral side, so that they
perfectly balance each other.
On hand Lung channel runs on medial side, the paired yang channel Large intestine runs on the
lateral side on the same axis. Similarly,
Heart
SI

Pericardium
triple warmer
On foot spleen channel runs on medial side, the paired yang channel Stomach channel runs on
lateral side on the same axis. Similarly,
Kidney
UB

Liver
GB
They always balance each other. For the same reason if jingwell point of yin channel starts, with
wood point, yang channel is just behind the same with, metal point. In the KO cycle wood is
controlled by Metal. You can find the sequence of command points as below.
Yin

In our body all yin points meet at chest/heart and All yang points meet at head
Yin is feminity ..yang is masculinity..
Now you know why most women decides by heart and men decides by head. Here I am not talking
about intellectual level or which is superior. It is not superior or inferior. It is only an attribute.
Hence foot treats hand , ankle treats wrist and vice versa. So far what we have seen is a straight
image. In most of the cases the more distal point from the point of problem , treats the cases more
effectively. Does it look like the principle of leverage. Yes.. you get more leverage ,if you go more
distal.
We can also treat as per reverse image. In reverse image shoulder points treat ankle, upper arm
treats upper leg and vise versa. Is it not interesting ?..
More imaging techniques on the next lesson.
In last lesson Tan 5, we have seen regular and reverse correlation between homologous structures.
i.e between hand and leg. In these cases we can treat any hand problem on opposite leg and leg
problems on opposite hand. But then you would ask me , how to treat problems on head and torso.
Now we take the imaging system which means, imagining the head and body on hand. Imaging
system comes in handy to treat all parts of the body on the hands or legs which is by finding a
correlation between two non similar parts.
Picture 1

Similarly we can also imagine body on the leg also, so that the body problems can be treated on the
leg. We will look at the leg correspondence system in the next lesson.
In last lesson Tan 6, we have seen regular and reverse correlation between complete arm and body
& head , also between forearm and body & Head.. In these cases we can treat any body & head
problem on corresponding hand . Now we take the imaging system which means, imagining the
head and body on leg. Imaging system comes in handy to treat all parts of the body on the hands or
legs which is by finding a correlation between two non similar parts.

In previous Tan lesson 6, we have seen imaging head to hip on complete arm or head to hip on fore
arm and in Tan 7 , we have seen imaging of head to hip on complete leg or head to hip on lower leg.
In these cases if you want to treat only the head/face , this is represented in a small area on hand or
leg, which makes it difficult to identify the distinct parts such as fore head, eyes, nose ,mouth and
chin. In such case imaging head alone on complete hand or complete leg helps. Let us refer picture 1.
Picture 1
Picture 1 depicts a relation between face and the complete hand or complete leg. The face can be
divided in 4 equal levels, keeping middle of the nose as centre.

17.
In the first level is from top of the head to middle of fore head.
The second level is middle of fore head to middle of the nose.
The third level is middle of the nose to upper lips
The forth level is upper lip to chin.
If needed the face can be further divided.
Can the reverse imaging is possible in this case. As i know ,the books and materials available did not
indicate that. But the question is why not?
If wrist as a flexible joint can represent neck which is flexible, then shoulder which is a flexible joint,
can also represent neck, then wrist would represent top of the head. In case if the above
representation does not work, i would suggest the reader to do reverse imaging. Let us give it a try.
The first level of face is represented by top half of the upper leg (thigh)
The 2nd level of face is represented by bottom half of upper leg
Middle of the nose is represented by knee.
The 3rd level of face is represented by top half of lower leg.(calf )
The 4th level of face is represented by bottom half of lower leg to ankle.
If needed the levels can be further sub divided.
With all the preparations we had so far let us dive into the Dr.Tans Balance systems. Let us recollect
the fundamentals once again.

Application:
Let us see how homologous structures treat each other.
1. In case if knee pain is felt on the stomach channel below the knee, we have to treat LI
channel on the hand on the contra lateral side. The pain is in leg yangming channel , treat
hand yang ming channel, (yang ming treats yang ming)and The location would be, as per
straight imaging system of homologous structures, in the fore arm on the LI channel near the
elbow. If we assume a reverse imaging system , the location would be in the upper arm on
the hand yang ming channel near the elbow. The pain point is 2 inch below knee, we can
needle the area approximately 2 inch below or above the elbow depends on the imaging
assumed.. The point can also be located by palpating and finding the tender points.
2. If the pain is felt on the wrist , it can be treated at ankle or hip on the corresponding
channel depending on reverse imaging
Let us see how the imaging of body on the hand treats (treatment of non homologous structures or
non similar structures) a problem of body. Assuming a chest pain running through Liver channel,
with reverse imaging of non similar structures , we can needle the fore arm. The tender points would
indicate, which imaging system is appropriate in the particular case.
So , by using different anatomical imaging systems using Tans System 1 ( refer above chart for
channel correspondence), many ailments can be treated and instant results can be achieved.
Treat opposite limbs. ( I have not used term contra lateral here, since it does not apply to all

Treat the healthy side, and not the sick side . Bei Jing treat same side of the problem (not
same limb) if the problem is on one side only.

Let us see how homologous structures treat each other in system 2.
1. In case if knee pain is felt on the stomach channel below the knee, we have to treat

on the jue yin(pericardium) channel near the elbow. If we assume a reverse imaging system ,
the location would be in the upper arm on the pericardium channel near the elbow. The pain
point is 2 inch below knee, we can needle the area approximately 2 inch below or above the
elbow depends on the imaging system assumed.. The point can also be located by palpating
and finding the tender points.
2. If the pain is felt on the outer wrist (triple warmer to say) , it can be treated at kidney points
at ankle or hip on the corresponding channel depending on straight or reverse imaging
Let us see how the imaging of body on the hand treats (treatment of non homologous structures or
non similar structures) a problem of body. Assuming a chest pain running through Liver channel,
with reverse imaging of non similar structures , we can needle the large intestine channel on the
fore arm.
If pain is in the lower abdomen, the channels of kidney, Ren and Stomach run through the area. If
the pain is more in Kidney channel ,

maximum. If the lung channel energy gets maximum between 3- 5 AM, the energy starts
building up from 3 AM and reach its maximum at 4 AM and starts reducing from 4 PM
and reaches its normal level at 5 AM. When an organs energy peaks at some time ,the
opposite clock organ energy goes to its lowest maximum. Understanding this clock and its
time. Then it tries to push out the blocks on the path. When action gets stronger even
reaction gets stronger which becomes cough or breathing difficulty. When lung channel is at
its peak between 3-5 AM UB is at its negative peak. This is a sinusoidal wave form. This
gives an option for us to treat the affected channel by needling the directly opposite
channel as per chinese clock. In Tan system 4 opposite of the diseased channel by

yang group preceeding channel treats the suceeding channel and suceeding channel treats

stomach channel treats large intestine channel. The next yin channel is spleen. Spleen

yin treats yin and yang treats yang. In system 1 & 5 yin treats yin and yang treats yang.
The common factor is in both cases large intestine treats stomach and vice versa. But in

spleen treats heart from the next group.(Balance is obtained from yin organ of next group)
If you observe precisely, all possible combinations are taken in Tans balance system. So
within the system we will find over lapping. Note in System 5 also hand treat foot and

of use and advantages. I have made a sincere attempt to make the system understandable
in a simple form and the ideas used are the original of Dr.Tan. Above a balancing chart

Master Sastry for asking me to teach Dr.Tans System and I have put in my earnest effort
to honour his words and tried to live upto his expectation. Though I have tried to avoid
any mistake creeping in this document, I request readers to bring it to my notice if any
mistake has happened inadvetantly and I will be solely responsible for such mistakes. Hope
everyone will get benifitted in eliciting a cure in most of the conditions and I am thankful
to all living and non living masters who has spent their life time in developing this system
for the betterment of mankind.
This is a small effort from M.Manoharan, a learning acupuncturist and a student of Mr.
