Werewolves New Rule Document
Game Summary:
Werewolves is a social deduction game. There is an "informed minority" (the werewolves)
and an "uninformed majority" (the villagers). The werewolves know who each other are,
and are trying to be the only people left alive. The town doesn't know who anybody else is,
and are trying to find and lynch all of the werewolves. The werewolves, to make sure the
town doesn't know who they are, must pretend to be town to win. The werewolves usually
can kill at night, to help them in being the only ones left alive.
1. General Gameplay and Etiquette:
1. You may not quote private Moderator-supplied information (either real or fabricated) of
any kind. Screenshots are, obviously, also not allowed. Paraphrasing (for role claims, etc.)
is acceptable.
2. Personal communication outside the thread (pm, etc.) is allowed.
3. If you have a role with a Night action your choices are due to all mods by the posted
deadline. If we do not receive your PM by the posted deadline you will forfeit your actions.
In case of multiple submissions, the last valid one before the deadline will be used. If your
Night action was mandatory, it will be decided randomly.
4. Roles with Night actions will not be able to submit an action on Night 0 (i.e. during the
confirmation stage).
5. Any player with a Night action may instead submit a No Action PM to let the Mods
know that you do not want to perform your expected action that Night phase.
6. As a general rule you should aim for one post every 24 hours, minimum, to keep the
game moving. Preferably more, and you can be asked to post more. (But if, due to
circumstances, you cant, thats acceptable of course.)
3. Once a player is lynched the game enters twilight until the mods officially declare a
death; all players including the one who was lynched may continue to post during twilight.
4. The length of deadlines is up to the mod's discretion.
5. What happens when the deadline is hit and nobody has a majority of votes is up to the
mod's discretion.
6. Please submit votes as: Vote: PlayerName.
7. You may Vote: No Lynch - a simple majority of these vote types are required to send the
game to Night phase without a lynch.
9. Once you are lynched (or otherwise killed), you are send to the hospital. Nobody really
dies. People can continue posting. However, when you are in the hospital, you loose your
special abilities and you can no longer vote.
10. If the thread is locked, you may not post. Threads can be locked for various reasons,
but no matter what the reason, you may not post. The mod may forget to lock the thread,
but if they say it is locked, it is still locked.
11. Do not edit or delete posts. We don't want some players having more information than
others. If you want to clarify posts, feel free to double post. Mods will not edit posts for you.
3. Miscellaneous/Mechanics:
1. If you have an issue/problem with the game, please PM the Mods privately. Do not post
issues/ complaints in the game thread.
2. The Mods may make mistakes - please point out any mistakes gently. Mistakes will be
corrected where possible, but sometimes mistakes are made that cannot be reversed.
These will stand as final to be commiserated over after the game.
3. Prods of missing players will be issued upon request after 24 hours of no activity. A
prodded player has 48 hours to respond or risks replacement. A player who has been
prodded 2 times is subject to replacement under rule 3.10 without further notice.
3. Please do not discuss ongoing games, it can unintentionally affect the other game.
4. Rule violations will be dealt with according to their severity, which may include modkill(s)
if needed.
5. If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period please post a notice
to that effect in the thread. Treat this game as a commitment. Be considerate dont leave
us hanging.
6. Players who discover they are too busy to play in a game or want to leave the game for
civility issues are not allowed to officially /out in the thread. A request to /out must only be
done via a PM to the moderator. Please do not use this as a manipulation technique. (Note
players may continue to threaten to /out or imply that they might as long as it does not
include an official request). Requests to /out are final once submitted. There will be no
/outing and then /inning back into the game so make sure that when you /out you have
thought it through and really want to do it. Players that can't be replaced will simply be
mod-killed.
4. Specific rules
People do not die in this version. The only information that is communicated is wether or
not you were a villager or a werewolf.
Note: some people who are villagers are on team werewolf. (E.G. the sorcerer and the
minion)
5. Houses and persons
In this variety, every person lives in his own little house. The wolves do not attack a
person, but they attack a house. It might be that there is no one in the house (because
certain roles can leave their house, but they must be in another house at that time) or that
there are multiple people in the house (because certain roles put multiple people in the
same house.) Unless otherwise noted, a role is present in their own house when the
wolves attack.
5. What happens during the night.
During the night, the instructions are ordered in this order:
0. The transporter happens.
1. The witch happens. If there are multiple witches who attack each other, the witch
who send me the instructions first gets priority.
1B. The Sjamaan wolf happens.
2. All special powers that gain information happen at this point. (Lookout, seer,
aura-seer, mystic wolf, etc.) People return to their houses unless otherwise
mentioned.
3. Special powers that provide protection or additional abilities (guardian angel,
sheepherder, etc.) happen. People return to their houses unless otherwise
mentioned.
4. The wolves attack. (Not all attacks are kills.)
5. Only a few roles happen after the wolves have attacked. Mainly things that
interact with the wolves.
6. People are informed of any information they have acquired during 2. If they
happen to be dead at this time, they, unfortunately, have amnesia and they have
failed to gain any information this night.
In the role descriptions below, the number in the table will always indicate during what time
of the night it happens. If, for any reason, there is a conflict, the person who send me their
instruction first gets priority.
6. The major
The major is not an active or passive ability. During the first day - after roles have been
distrivuted to everyone and the wolves know who the other wolves are - but *before* the
first kill/text, the major is chosen by the people. When the major dies, he can choose the
new major. The major has the deciding vote whenever there is a tie. Even if the major did
not vote for any of the tie members, the major can still choose to intervene and decide the
tie either way. If the tie is not resolved, nobody dies (because you need a simple majority)
and there is no lynching.
7. Some clarifications on terminology
Term
Clarification
Killed
Attack
5. Active Roles
Role name
Magician
Witch
Nighttime
Description
The magician points towards one person every night. That person has, unknowingly to
himself, two votes during the voting procedure of the following day.
The witch may point towards ONE PERSON every night. That person looses their active
ability during the night.
(They keep their passive ability. If the witch points towards the werewolf that send me the
kill, the kill does not happen. The wolf is stopped in his/her path. If more than 60% of
people who are on team wolf are killed, witches can no longer prevent wolves from killing.
(But they can still prevent wolves from using other special powers.)
The usage of the witch her powers counts as an attack, but not as a kill.
If the witch has received one vote against her during the previous voting procedure, she
has accumulated sufficient negative energy to be able to curse two people.
The witch never leaves her house.
Seer
The seer can point towards two people every night. The GM says if at least one of them is
a werewolf or not.
Role name
Hunter
Guardian Angel
Nighttime
Description
When you die, you can take someone with you. If you die because the villagers kill you,
you can take someone with you who voted for you. If you die because the werewolves
killed you, you automatically attack the wolf that killed you. If the wolf has protection, the
wolf is obviously protected.
The guardian angel casts a protection spell on someone. The next time that person is
attacked or killed, that person is protected and the effect is revealed. This effect can only
be cast one per person; the same person can not be pointed towards twice by the guardian
angel. The guardian angel can choose not to use his/her power during the night, if he/she
doesnt trust anyone. This effect lasts until the first time the person is killed. So if the
guardian angel stays alive a long time, it could be that multiple people need to be killed
twice before they actually die. A person protected by the guardian angel that is attacked by
the wolves will not know this has happened. The story may hint to this, but no definitive
prove of who was attacked will be given. Again, to be clear: the protection spell defends
against all attacks, not just kills.
The guardian angel never leaves her house.
Necromancer
The necromancer hears every night who has died during the night. He can use his power
once to put one person back to life. He can only give life back to someone who died during
the night. After he has used his power, he will no longer receive any information who died
during the night. (The necromancer will not be informed how or why the people on the list
died.)
The necromancer can also point towards one person and remove that persons active
power for the remainder of the game. He can only use this power once. (That person will
be informed that he feels to weak to continue to use his powers.)
He can not perform both abilities during the same night, but he can choose to perform
neither.
The necromancer leaves his house if he performs an ability.
Aura-seer
The aura-seer points towards three people at night and will get to hear their passive
abilities (if any). The aura-seer will not be informed which person has which passive ability,
though. If only one person, for example, has a passive ability, the aura-seer will be
informed about that one, but again: will not be informed who has it.
The aura-seer never leaves her house.
Minion
Sorcerer
Helps the werewolves and wins with the werewolves. Knows who the werewolves are
and wants them to win. But he is itself not a werewolf and can not kill other villagers. A
Minion can also not vote for a werewolf during a voting procedure. If he does, he dies.
Helps the werewolves and wins with the werewolves. Does not know who the
werewolves are and wants to hem them. Every night, she can wake up and point one
opponent. The game master will tell the sorcerer wether that person is (1) a seer, (2) a
witch, (3) a werewolf or (4) neither.
The sorcerer can not vote for a wolf more than once, otherwise the wolves will
automatically attack the sorcerers house the next night. (So after the second time the
sorcerer votes for a werewolf, he will be killed the next night.)
Role name
Transporter
Nighttime
0
Description
(This happens even before the witches.) Every night, you may switch 2 people from their
houses, without them knowing it. What happens to the first one will happen to the second
one in stead and vice versa. Nobody will be able to tell the difference too.
The transporter leaves his house.
Lookout
Name a person. You stand by that persons house and can watch everyone who passes by
during phase 2, 3 and 4. (But you still sleep in your own bed. So if the wolves attack you
during phase 4, they have waited outside of your house untill you have returned to bed.)
The wandering damsel has a hard time staying in bed. Every night she leaves her house
and goes to someone else his or her house to sleep next to that person in bed. (If the
wolves attack this house, both the WD and the owner of the house die.) The WD will notice
in the morning if the owner has left the house to do anything, but will not notice what the
owner has done. The wandering damsel can not visit the same house twice in a row. (But
can visit the same house multiple times during the game, just never twice in a row.)
The wandering damsel leaves the house and stays in someone elses house during the
attack.
Sheepherder
The sheepherder is an experienced trap expert. He can create traps around houses in
which wolves can be trapped. The wolves can either continue to attack the house (kill the
owner, and die in the process) or retreat.
The sleuth works every night on the puzzle that has created during the day. Every night, he
can send a piece of the stories posted to the GM and ask wether or not this is about a
certain person. If he asks for too large a part of the story (so that it includes multiple
people), the answer is automatically no.
You may (not obligatory) attack someone in the beginning of the night. (So guardian angel
protects against this and pacifist is also protected against this.) If this person dies during
the night or during the day, you get this persons active and passive ability (in addition to
the passive and active ability you already have.) The next night you can choose between
*EITHER* your active and passive ability you have gained *OR* try to steal a new one.
If the person you have targeted was not from team villager, you die together with this
person. If the person goes thieving, he leaves the house.
The handsome
seducer
The handsome seducer seduces someone. Unknowingly, that persons vote doesnt count
during the next day and the handsome seducer has an additional vote. This only works if
that person is alive during the voting procedure. If the handsome seducer dies (or her/his
victim dies, this power looses all effect.)
The handsome seducer leaves the house.
Mystic wolf
The mystic wolf can point to any number of people and name an active function. The mystic
wolf wlll be informed wether or not the active function is present among those people. The
mystic wolf only gets a yes or no answer.
The absent minded wolf doesnt know the other wolves and the other wolves dont know
him. If they, however, attack him during the night, theyll recognize he is a wolf and not kill
him.
Strong wolf
When the strong wolf is killed of during a voting procedure or during the night, hell fake his
death. However, during the following night he can get back up, full of adrenaline and
perform one more kill where nothing (not witch magic or traps or anything) can stop him.
This last boost of adrenaline will kill him, however. If there were no wolves alive to help him,
this talent, however, is useless.
Lonely wolf
Shadow wolf
The shadow wolf isnt the strongest or the biggest of the pack. But he is a master ninjawolf, that can sneak anywhere unseen by anyone, not even the narrator. The narrator can
not put in any clue towards the shadow wolf into the little texts. However, because of this
sneak attack, he can only kill one person in a house: the owner. If there are multiple people
in the house, the others survive.
Contagious wolf
The congagious wolf can create one additional wolf during the game. However, this takes
so much power that the contagious wolf him or herself dies when he or she does this.
Using this power is an attack, but is not a kill.
Pacifist
If the person you voted for is lynched by the villagers nd is of team villagers, you commit
suicide. (So if the person you voted for was a werewolf, a sorcerer or a minion, you stay
alive.) A pacifist is also immune for any attacks from anyone, except kills.
Veteran
The veteran, when attacked by wolves, is ready for one final show down. He removes the
active ability of the wolf that attacked him for the remainder of the game (unless its a lone
wolf) AND he knocks out all the teeth of the wolf, removing that wolves ability to kill.
However, due to his old age, he doesnt remember that his happened in the morning. He
can do this feat of strength only once, and he also looses his active ability. So after this one
time feat, he is just an ordinary villager.
The wolves, of course, remember this epic battle.
Sick person
The sick person causes a food malfunctioning when the wolves kill this person. The wolves
dont notice this at first, but during the next night, when the wolves want to go into a house,
they are too weak to proceed.
Wolfman
The wolfman is so ugly that the wolves cease the attack when they attack this person. This
can only happen once, after that, the wolves attack him anyway. This person is also so ugly
during the night, that the seer thinks this person is a werewolf.
Tough guy
The tough guy can survice an attack and cant be infected by the contagious wolf (but the
contagious wolf does die when he attacks a tough guy and tries to infect him.) The tough
guy can survive one more vote, but then he dies.
Cheating voter
If the cheating voters vote didnt kill the person he wanted to kill, he gets an additional
votes during the next voting procedure. A cheating voter can only have a maximum of 2
votes.
Fortune teller
If anyone mentions the fortune teller in an active ability (so anything other than a kill, but
including the attack from the contagious wolf) the fortune teller is informed who that was.
Mystic
The mystic can, once, during the game (and it will remain so for the remainder of the game)
instruct the GM to incorporate into the stories a different active and passive ability. You are
allowed to wait, but as long as you do, your real and mystic powers might be hinted at in
the stories. Other roles (such as seer) that target you will not be misguided by your trickery.
Loved ones
The win if they finish the game together, regardless of villager or werewolf role. This is a
modern village. If there are more than 15 participants, it could be (but isnt necessary) that
there are 3 people who are in a very, very modern relationship.
Annoyed neighbor
When someone wants information from an annoyed neighbor (seer, mystic wolf, lookout,
sorcerer, auraseer, etc.) or attacks without killing an annoyed neighbor (witch), that person
automatically has one vote against him/her during the next voting procedure.
The academic
The academic will every night hear an active or passive role that is not in the game. The
order of this will be determined after all the roles are determined, but before the roles are
distributed. (So this is not influenced by any knowledge of strategies by villagers or
werewolves alike.)
The butcher
Every time the butcher passes a deciding vote (i.e. his vote is the final vote and/or is the
vote that decides a persons fates between surviving and dying), the butcher gets an
additional vote until a maximum of 3.
Camouflaged wolf
Sjamaan wolf
1B
Sjamaan wolf can cause powerful delusions and visions in villagers mind. The
sjamaanwolf can point to one person every night (not him/herself) and let that person
appear different in the inquiries of seers, auraseers, etc. They will all see this villager as the
delusion that the sjamaanwolf has created.
The werejellyfish.
The jellyfish werewolf is a very unfortunate werewolf. He has no ability to kill. He transforms
into an ordinary jellyfish. If the werejellyfish is the last one of team wolf to survive, he is
powerless and the villagers win. However, he can go into a villagers house and inject the
owner of the house with a strong venom. This will cause the owner of the house unable to
perform his or her active abilities for that night, including short term amnesia. After one
night, this villager gains immunity to this venom, causing the werejellyfish to have to find a
new victim every night. The wolves dont particularly like the werejellyfish so they never go
into the same house together.
