different flavors of the same food item, or the same type of food product in several

Active packaging for food in different countries is also being driven by stringent food
and health regulations all over the world. For instance, in the EU, GENERAL FOOD
LAW regulation requires only safe food and feed to be placed in the market or fed to
food-producing animals. It also provides a basic criterion for establishing whether
food or feed is safe to use. Regulation requires manufacturers to provide all the

targeted and accurate information to the customers. It also removes or bans the
faulty food or feed from the market. Moreover, if the product is imported, the
importers are required to know the seller of that product from the exported country.
Recently in Australia, the Government introduced a new country of origin food
labeling system which commenced on 1 July, 2016. Under this new food law,
packaged food must contain either of the following information: the country where
the food was produced/made/grown or the country where the food was manufactured
or packed and that the food is a mix of ingredients imported into that country or a
mix of local and imported ingredients. The manufacturers have two years to change
their food labels when the law will come into effect from 1 July, 2018.
Similar laws are being formulated across different countries for public safety and will
lead to increasing implementation of active packaging solutions across different
