school climate as a whole. Bullying can cause long-term problems for both the
victims of bullying and the bullies themselves.
To explore the effects of bullying on adolescents, we will define bullying, identify
the characteristics of bullies and victims, outline the extent and consequences of
bullying, and present resources for further information and assistance.
Bullying is any behavior that is initiated by one or more students against a
victim or victims that causes physical or psychological intimidation. Bullying
behaviors can be classified as either direct (such as teasing, threatening, hitting, or
stealing) or indirect (such as rumor spreading or social isolation). Boys typically
employed direct methods of bullying, while girls tend to use in direct methods.
Either way, behaviors must occur repeatedly overtime to be classified as bullying.
Characteristics of Bullies and Victims
There are specific behaviors that bullies tend to exhibit. The bullies often
need to feel powerful and in control. They may feel no remorse when they inflict
injury and suffering on others. Bullies tend to defy authority and are likely to break
school rules. They seem to have little anxiety and appear to possess high self-
esteem. Students who come from homes characterized by physical punishment
tend to be more likely to exhibit these types of behaviors.
Victims also tend to exhibit specific characteristics. They are often
anxious, insecure, cautious, and have low self-esteem. Victims tend to be socially
isolated, and may lack social skills and friends. Because they tend to be weaker
than their peers, either physically or socially, victims rarely retaliate against
bullies. Students who have close ties with their parents/guardians or who have
overprotective parents/guardians are more likely to be victimized by bullies. Recog
Cause & Effect Essay: Bullying
Most people know that bullying is wrong. Calling someone names has absolutely
no beneficial purpose. Moreover, hitting someone makes a bully feel good in the
moment while doing permanent damage to the person being victimized. With the
Internet, people now have even more opportunities to bully through cyberbullying.
This includes sending crude pictures, posting fake web pages, or tweeting
slanderous messages. Cyberbullying has subsequently led to a rise in a completely
new kind of bullying.
One of the effects of bullying is that it can change the victims personality. It can
cause people who are normally confident and happy to become self-conscious, shy,
and unsure. Additionally, victims of bullying may also become sad or depressed.
Their confidence might completely disappear, keeping them from trying new
things or trusting people. Once a person has been bullied, they may hesitate to
participate in situations where he or she might be ridiculed, such as in public
speaking or in sports. A bullying victim might even begin to possess previously
absent anxious behavior.
Despite all the negative effects of bullying, there are even far more serious
consequences. People who have been bullied sometimes become so upset, scared,
or depressed that they see no worth in themselves and no way out of their torment.
There have been countless reports over the past few years of students committing
suicide because they were bullied. Take Amanda Todd, 16 years old girl from
Canada who committed suicide in 20 you can see her story on YouTube that she
uploaded an hour before she committed suicide. She said in the video that she
couldnt go to school because people in school hate her. Once, she .
Aside from its long-term effects, some consequences of bullying can be seen and
felt immediately. When one child calls another child names, the victim might cry
and a bruise might appear after a punch to the arm. However, some effects of
bullying are not always obvious to the naked eye. The results of bullying might
grow and appear over time, damaging a person in profound ways for the long term.
There are so many effects of bullying that they are impossible to count or predict.
This is why it is so important to stop bullying.
Have you ever bullied or been bullied? If you have bullied or been bullied then you
should know how bullying feels like. Bullying is very negative and creates major
problems for our society. Nothing good comes out of bullying. It could very well
change or ruin a persons life. In fact, it does ruin many peoples lives. Kids can be
mentally scarred if they are teased often. Even worse, they could be killed or
fatally injured if the bullying gets extreme. There are many causes for bullying
which must be taken care of before bullying can be stopped. T.V. violence, families
in poverty, and mis-teachings are just several of the many serious causes for
bullying. Bullying must be stopped or prevented no matter how long it will take, it
is a deeply concerning matter.
Bullying does not always have to be childish play, it can be extremely
violent. People may be bruised, injured, or even killed. Kids under bad influence
may turn very violent. Parents, relatives, friends, T.V., music and pictures may all
influence people, especially when they are depressed or are in a lowered state of
mind. Violence on T.V. is a very big influence, particularly the wrestling and
fighting shows. Also, T.V. shows are quite readily available for anyone to watch.
Kids may try moves on people at school because they believe its cool. As well,
cooperation from childrens parents is important, some parents actually encourage
their children to fight to look cool or dont teach them properly. Kids must take
their own initiative, as well, they must find out whats wrong and whats right for
themselves sometimes. Many kids dont take bullying seriously. However, when a
real incident occurs, they are unprepared, shocked, regretful, or dead. Bullying
must stop, for it is destroying the lives and futures of many innocents, perhaps not
killing them, but ruining them. People may end up physically distorted, paralysed,
or dead because...
Bullying In School
Bullying is a very popular disease among the school students today. Bullies may be
specified as endangered species who make ridicule of others for their own fun.
Although life is a journey and a tough fight, but, not everyones a fighter. Students
with money power try to harm other students and cease their dignity and innocence
for the entire school life. To discuss this current topic, I have divided my sample
paper into 3 sections specifying the practice of bullying and how we can prevent it
and save the children from facing this annoyance. Bullying means to intimidate
other students (in school or college context) to do what one wants. Typically,
Bullying is similar to ragging whereby group of people with high profile or
superiority or seniority do pillory or scoff at the benign students. One should never
do a wrong thing to make friends. Just for the sake of impressing other classmates,
one should not attempt anything wrong that may harm a credulous student in
anyway.
Day to Day examples of Bullying in School
We often come across news, showcasing the effect of bullying in schools and the
side effects on the harmed students. There are various types of bullying
experienced in schools among the students like: teasing, taunting, threatening,
hitting, spitting, and embarrassing others in public place. All these actions may
assault ones dignity. The effect of bullying on the children is so negative, that it
may damage their academic performance. It may force students to even commit
suicide. It harms the students not only mentally but physically, emotionally, and
socially. The cause of bullying varies from case to case. The assault may be due to
some personal reasons or out of jealousy or it may depend upon the family
background of bullies. Such families are considered to be dysfunctional as they are
not interested in knowing about their child activities in school. With ignorance
comes fear and the fear leads to dogmatism. Education is the key to acceptance.
Such cases can be avoided by the combined efforts of school, parents and off
course with the help of school students. It is said that with time, everything settles
down, but in such cases we cant wait for time otherwise something bad may
happen and then no one will be able to handle its consequences.
This would surround the students with positive energy and will definitely help
them to overcome their bullying attitude. Rich or poor, high class or low class
every child is same and equal and their innocence must not be harmed by
substandard and unsatisfactory attitude. Lastly , I want to say that each of us is a
book to be written, either good or bad , worst or best and, if written, defines a
persons personality i.e., a persons persona is by the people, the nature, the
positive or the negative energy surrounding him. Good the surroundings are, best a
person is.
