Pizza Box Biography Book Report

For the third book report, each student will read a biographya nonfiction book written
about someones life. They will then turn a pizza box into their report about the person
they chose. There are multiple steps to this book report so please follow the outline
below carefully.
1. CHOOSING A PERSON/BOOK: Students will choose a famous person to read about
from the list on the back of this page. Only one child will be reading about each
person so signing up is on a first come, first serve basis. Students must have the
book when they sign up for their person so that I can approve it. They may not sign
up if they dont have the book. I recommend helping your child choose a second
choice in case their first choice is already filled. Students must choose a person and
bring in the book they are going to read by Thursday, March 16th. Not doing so by
this date will result in your child losing 2 points.
2. MAKING THE PIZZA BOX BIOGRAPHY: There are three main parts to the
biographythe outside top, the inside top, and the actual pizza.
a. Outside Top: Here, you will introduce the person of your biography. This is the
place that you can get the most creative with a fun title and slogan, unique
lettering, illustrations, photos, etc. Be creative and try a catchy title.
b. Inside Top: Decorate the inside top of the box with some kind of decoration
that has to do with the person the student is reading about. This could include
(but not limited to) pictures, drawings, small 3D figures taped/glued to the box.
Include a large illustration of the person, the year they were born, and the year
they died. Example: The inside, top cover of Walt Disney's biography box could
be decorated with Mickey Mouse wrapping paper with a drawing of Walt Disney
on white paper in the middle.
c. The Pizza: Now to the real meat of the book report! This is where you write the
actual report about your person you have read about. Each piece of pizza is a
slice of your famous persons life. You can make each slice out of paper,
cardstock, cardboard, or whatever you see fit. You will write one the following 8
topics along the crust of each slice of pizza (so you will need 8 slices). On each
slice, you must write at least 2 complete sentences related to the topic. You
may decorate your slices to look like pizza, but make sure your writing is neat
and easy to read. These are the topics to use on your slices:
1. Childhood (where the person was born or grew up)
2. Education (What schools did the person attend?)
3. Adult Life (What job did he/she have? Where did he/she live? etc.)
4. Accomplishments (What made this person famous?)
5. Influence (How has this person affected/helped others?)
6. Qualities (What kinds of characteristics does this person have? What
do you admire about them?)
7. Fun Facts (List some interesting facts about your person.)
8. Bibliography (List the title and author of the book you used.)
3. PRESENTING THE BIOGRAPHY: Each student will use their pizza to present their
biography to the class. This will only be about a 1-2 minute presentation where you
will show the class the book you read and your Pizza Box and tell about the person.
Information you must include in your presentation are the name of the person, when
they were born/died, why they are famous, and at least 1 fun fact.
The Pizza Box must be completed and turned in by Thursday,
April 13th. Students will be presenting this day, as well. No late
book reports are accepted.
