Step-by-Step Description
Choose a career that interests you. This is a fun and informative project that uses your research
skills. It is recommended that you take notes in Microsoft Word under separate headings. If you use sheets
of paper, use a separate sheet for each of these categories. You may also use the attached question sheet, but
be aware the worksheet may not have enough room to fit all your information. This assignment may be done in
groups of 2 or individually. All citations should follow MLA format.
1) Go to http://www.alis.gov.ab.ca/
2) Scroll down to the High School Students section and select What Am I Good At?
3) Select Self-Assessment Tools
4) On the right is a box labelled Explore Careers click on Education Program
5) Search for the term Science or Technician
6) Pick a job title from either list that you are interested in
PRESENTATION METHODS
VISUAL PRESENTATION/JOB FAIR PRESENTATION
A three-sided poster board must be designed to hold all career information in text form and be
accompanied by related pictures, graphs and diagrams. May contain hand drawn images or computer printed
format. The poster must contain the information (in paragraph or bullet form) in each of the five areas.
MOCK INTERVIEW
With a partner select an interesting occupation. One person will be the interviewer and one person will be
the person employed in that specific career. The Interview should last roughly 5 minutes. Suggested questions
are listed below. You can add questions related to your interests, concerns and information researched.
POWER POINT/PREZI
Create a Power Point or Prezi presentation about the career that you chose. Example of slide
progression could be as follows. Present the Power Point or Prezi to the Class
1) Introduction - A title slide including the career you chose, your name, and the class name
2) Description and Details in-depth and detailed examples to provide a full picture of the career
3) Education and Training the education and training needed for the job chosen
4) Salary and benefits potential earnings in various places and related job choices
5) Personal Interest detailed rationale of why and how the career in interesting
6) Conclusion/Typical day in the Life
7) Bibliography list the sources you used using MLA citation format
The primary goal of an investigative essay is to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the subject in
an unbiased manner. Doing this requires performing significant research. Essay format may be as follows;
introduction, headlined sections with titles from rubric, conclusion and bibliography. 2-3 pages in length
excluding bibliography.
